Police to target impaired drivers over holiday weekend

The Register-Star is reporting police will target impaired drivers statewide, beginning Fri., Jul. 1, and continue until Tue., Jul. 5. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and the Greenport and Hudson police will participate in the STOP-DWI Crackdown, according to Columbia County STOP-DWI. The campaign is also active during Labor Day weekend, Halloween and the end of December. One-third of all driving fatalities involve drunken drivers, according to Columbia County STOP-DWI.
