All are welcome to join garden writer, photographer, and eco-friendly designer Karen Bussolini to learn how to design wildlife-friendly pollinator habitats disguised as beautiful gardens. There is a growing awareness that pollinators are important, and that they’re in trouble. We know that pollinators need flowers and that they are responsible for much of the food we eat, but we’re maybe a little vague on the details. Pollinators, particularly insect pollinators, do need flowers – lots of flowers, and the right kinds of flowers – so diversity and quantity are big factors. But let’s back up a bit. Why are there flowers in the first place? And for that matter, why are there fruits and berries? Surely they didn’t evolve just for human pleasure and sustenance. There’s more to it, and it’s a fascinating story of interrelationships.

Some pollinators are better at the job than others, just as some flowers are more valuable food sources. Bees and other insects are key – they give a snapshot of the health of the entire ecosystem. Like all living things, they need good habitat – nesting places, resting places, hibernation sites, mating opportunities, food and water, in a non-toxic environment.

This is not a bee i.d. presentation, its about best plants and practices. Gardeners are uniquely able to support the entire life cycle of beneficial insects and other pollinators. Good plant choices and land care, coupled with simple awareness of the living world buzzing all around us make all the difference. After all, we’re not just cultivating flowers, we’re cultivating habitat.

"A thrilling book about the abounding queerness of the natural world that challenges our expectations of what is normal, beautiful, and possible."

In Forest Euphoria, Kaishian shows us this making of a scientist and introduces readers to the queerness, literal and otherwise, of all the life around us. Fungi, we learn, commonly have more than two biological sexes—and some as many as twenty-three thousand. Some intersex slugs mutually fire calcium carbonate “love darts” at each other during courtship. Glass eels are sexually undetermined until their last year of life, which stumped scientists once dubbed “the eel question.” Nature, Kaishian shows us, is filled with the unusual, the overlooked, and the marginalized—and they have lessons for us all.

Growing up, Patricia Kaishian felt most at home in the swamps and culverts near her house in the Hudson Valley. A child who frequently felt out of place, too much of one thing or not enough of another, she found acceptance in these settings, among other amphibious beings. In snakes, snails, and, above all, fungi, she saw her own developing identities as a queer, neurodivergent person reflected back at her—and in them, too, she found a personal path to a life of science.

Dr. Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian is the Curator of Mycology at the New York State Museum, and a professor of biology with Bard Prison Initiative. Her research focuses on fungal taxonomy, diversity and evolution, as well as queer theory and philosophy of science. Forest Euphoria: the Abounding Queerness of Nature is her first book.

Buster Keaton: giant of American comedy, filmmaker of grace and beauty, and performer of the impossible. Working without special effects or stuntmen, Keaton’s ability to hold a straight face through every calamity while also being so incredibly expressive, seems impossible. Further, his achievement of producing 19 silent short films and 10 silent features would be called impossible if it were not for the fortunate fact that the films exist. Proctor's Theater will celebrate four of Buster Keaton’s greatest shorts on June 24th, with more events potentially to follow!

Providing musical accompaniment for these films is Carl Hackert, Program Director of the Hudson-Mohawk American Theatre Organ Society and one of New York’s most celebrated theatre organists. Hackert’s performance partner for this event will be the magnificent “George,” an incredible recreation of George Wright’s famous Hollywood Philharmonic recording studio organ!

Hard Luck (1921): A down on his luck young man makes several attempts to end it all, yet fortunately proves a failure at that too! (22 min)

In this class, he shares exercises that improve postural stability, core strength, spatial body awareness, sensory integration, agility, and coordination. The class will serve as an important space for community through its focus on healthy connection, breathing, and its encouraging atmosphere.

Qigong is an ancient Chinese energy cultivation practice. Qi means life force energy and the practice of Qigong promotes health, longevity and self-healing. The practice clears energy stagnation, balances and integrates mind, body, spirit and emotions. Intention and breath guide the movements. It is based on Taoist and Traditional Chinese Medicine traditions, as in acupuncture. The movement patterns are called flows: repetitive, slow, gentle movements that refine and increase our energy. We learn to be in the moment and “go with the flow” as our movements are guided by our intention rather than muscular force. The practice can be done sitting or standing by anyone of any age. No prior experience is necessary. Attend as often as you can…consistency will strengthen your practice and results.

Bring a yoga mat if you have one. We will meet outdoors at the gazebo in the West Meadow, weather permitting, or indoors in the Education Center during inclement weather. Two parking areas are available, dependent on location of the class.

You can join the local art scene in celebrating the 2nd Annual ArtEast Plein Air Paint Out and Auction on June 28. “Plein air” is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and plein air painting is the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. This event will be held rain-or-shine. Participating artists will be setting up to paint around the Pawling area. General locations can be found on the event website map (link below) or keep watch for artists standing along scenic roadways or over-looks applying their paint to canvas and using their unique skills while capturing the beauty of this region. At the reception, meet the artists and ask them about their work. The public is free to visit the painters as they paint, ask questions and see how plein air painters create their master pieces. Consider it an “open studio” tour!

The event culminates in a reception that kicks off at 5:00pm on Saturday, June 28, at the Lathrop Center at Lakeside Park, Pawling NY. Starting at 5:00pm, patrons will be able to meet the artists, view their work created that day and vote for the People’s Choice Award. Dancing Bear Café of Pawling will be supplying delectable treats for all to enjoy. At 6:00pm, a live auction will begin. With a bidding paddle, patrons can bid on the paintings and take home a local piece of art. This event is a collaborative fundraiser for the participating artists and the FROGS (Friends of the Great Swamp a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect the health of the Great Swamp watershed through research, education and conservation). Nestled in the Harlem Valley and covering over 6,000 acres in New York’s eastern Putnam and Dutchess Counties, the Great Swamp Watershed is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in the state. Designated by the USDA Forest Service as a Highlands Conservation Focal Area and cited by the state Department of Environmental Conservation in a 2009 report for its unique habitat, diverse wildlife, scenic value, the Great Swamp’s critical function is as an aquifer recharge area.

This special event features four distinguished musicians: Anthony Bracewell on violin and viola, Rhiannon Banerdt on violin, Luke Krafka on cello, and Gili Melamed-Lev on piano. The program includes a selection of works by celebrated composers such as Astor Piazzolla, Franz Schubert, Arvo Pärt, and Robert Schumann, offering a rich and diverse musical experience."

REAL PEOPLE REAL STORIES is a centerpiece of Ancram Center’s seasonal programming. The seminar involves a series of storytelling workshops. In these workshops, residents develop and shape their monologues with guidance from program director, Paul Ricciardi. Turn out at The Avalon Lounge on Sunday, June 29th at 7:30pm for a Wave Farm Radio fundraiser organized by Sunday Night Swim, a monthly ambient series! This month features Grains of Euphoria (Bradford Reed and Ryder Cooley) and Music for Furniture. Proceeds go to Wave Farm's WGXC!

In Grains of Euphora, Bradford Reed and Ryder Cooley combine strings, reeds, keys, bows and steel to create euphoric, mesmerizing plateaus of sound, intertwined with pizzicato ostinatos and improvisatory elements as the musicians respond to the energy of the room.

The electro-acoustic duet blends the dreamy sounds of bowed saw with harmonic overtones of pencilina, a zither-like instrument designed by Bradford. The music segues into traditional reedy melodies and drones on the accordion, then back again to the whispery moans of the saw interspersed with rhythmic pulses on the Pencilina. Traversing a broad sonic palette, Grains of Euphora can be categorized as simultaneously symphonious and rambunctious.

Bradford Reed is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and inventor of the Pencilina, an electro-acoustic double necked string instrument inspired by the sounds of Indonesian Gamelan music and appearing similar to the Korean Kayagum. His projects have included King Missile III, The Blue Man Group as well as TV and film scoring. He currently plays with The Dirt Whisperers and Order of The Illusive.

Ryder Cooley is an interdisciplinary artist, accordionist, singing saw player and founder of the band Dust Bowl Faeries. The accordion was passed down to Ryder by her grandmother, who was a composer and piano accordionist.

Music for Furniture is an experiment in attentive listening. Rodney Alan Greenblat, David Garland, Jimmy Garver, Kenji Garland, and Dan Kirkhus pool their musical perspectives to create spontaneous soundscapes using synthesizers, electronics, and woodwinds.

All are welcome to join and learn various Qigong sets and then work on a traditional Tai Chi Form – a set series of movements and postures – with instructor Curt Anthon, a member of the Yang Family Tai Chi Association.

An opportunity to bring the youngest children in your life and enjoy a walk in the woods with Membership and Outreach Coordinator Kate Martin. Children, up to age 3, and caretakers will enjoy a relaxing walk while learning about nature and the Preserve. You can meet other caregivers and children while seeing the beauty of the woods as the seasons change. Infants are welcome, but please note that our trails are not suitable for strollers.

February 6, 2025: Basic Audio Concepts 

Session objectives include an overview of common and useful terms related to acoustic, electronic, and digital ecologies, with a technical focus on audio transduction and microphone varieties. Additional topics for discussion include psychoacoustics—the branch of science studying the psychological responses associated with sound—with a focus on physical spatial considerations and panning/width in recording.

March 6, 2025: Filters

Session objectives include an introduction to common concepts related to filters in audio production, including frequency response, polar pattern, and equalization. Participants will also learn about The Fletcher Munson Curve, frequency masking, and infrasound, and how to apply these concepts to your work. We will also consider recording height and how to address unwanted plosives and sibilance.

April 3, 2025: Considering Loudness when Recording

Session objectives include strategies for achieving desired “depth” in your recordings. Topics include gain staging, dynamic range, compression, and the concept of distance in recording, including reverb and distortion.

May 1, 2025: Editing Bootcamp

Editing bootcamp! We will cover hotkeys, fades, matching takes, punching in/out, layering tracks, and bus processing. Participants will learn shortcuts for quicker and better edits, as well as bulk import/export strategies.

June 5, 2025: Creative processing

Session objectives include strategies for creating your own audio effects (FX). Topics include delays, filters, autopan, and time stretching. Participants will learn about sequences FX and FX automation in order to achieve the sounds you are imagining.

July 3, 2025: Multitrack Mixing

Session objectives include strategies for mixing multitrack sessions for full height, width, and depth without murkiness. The goal of this session is to understand how to make multiple tracks fit together in a mix. Attendees will participate in critical listening for frequency range, dynamics, and headroom.

August 7, 2025: The Physical Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include an overview of crucial care and maintenance of recording equipment to ensure longevity of your tools, including a hands-on introduction to soldering and light electronic repairs.

September 4, 2025: The Intangible Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include discussions about analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion and digital audio processing. Specific topics will include block size, sample rate, bit depth, compression, streaming, and physical media. Additional topics include how best to manage computer resources in large sessions, latency for high track count, and CPU intensive processing.

October 2, 2025: Understanding Monitoring Sources and Taking it to the Stage

Session objectives include a conceptual overview of possible monitoring sources: speakers, headphones, and subwoofers, as well as the impacts of the space or room on your recording quality. Additional topics will include techniques for recording live performance, including ringing out microphones, PA system safety, microphone techniques, and streaming.

November 6, 2025: Taking It to the Field

Session objectives include field recording tools, principles, refinement, and processing.

Jen Kutler is a multidisciplinary artist and Technical Director of Wave Farm. Kutler modifies found objects that are cultural signifiers of power, gender, queerness, and intimacy to create atypical instruments and sculptures. Her performances feature many of her instruments incorporated with immersive field recordings to explore common and discrepant experiences of familiar social tones in immersive sound and media environments. An evening-length dance piece set to composer Julius Eastman’s (1940-1990) jubilant work of the same title, “Femenine” (1974) is a celebration choreographed by Kyle Marshall, with music performed live by the BlackBox Ensemble. Dressed in non-binary expressions, six dancers ebb between joyfully queer geometry and dense solos of honesty, creating a community driven by musicality and dramatic moments of power. Washed in an ocean of bells, vibraphone, brass, woodwinds and strings, the work carries us through spaces for softness and affirmation, revealing the shadows and shimmers of Eastman’s life and legacy.

This month’s volunteer work party will take place at Greenport, where we can come together and care for the land! This work party will focus on making the pollinator patch shine! Projects will include clearing out non-native weeds around the fence, installing a pedestrian gate, and tagging native plants to keep in the pollinator patch. As part of the workshop, volunteers will learn to identify both native and non-native plants, as well as effective strategies for removing weeds.

All are welcome to lend a hand at this fun, friendly volunteer event.

What’s involved: This volunteer event is a choose-your-own-adventure experience! A variety of tasks will be available for people of all experience levels and abilities. To reach the work site, volunteers will travel approximately a quarter of a mile along the Access for All trail, which is ADA accessible and features gravel terrain.

All are invited to explore the studios of the 2025 cohort of artists-in-residence at Art Omi, intermingled with pop-up performances, site-specific installations, and other creative activations. Open Studios offers an intimate glimpse into the work of international artists from a range of disciplines and techniques—from painters to performance artists, sculptors to sound artists, you're invited to take a trip around the art world without ever leaving our Studio Barn!

All are welcome to join us for presentations and a discussion with a panel of experts. This year's theme focuses on community science and participatory projects. Registration is not required but encouraged.

Learn basic cybersecurity skills to control your sensitive data and protect yourself from unwanted surveillance. The workshop will guide participants through concrete actions and a simplified step-by-step breakdown of setting up and maintaining personal digital security across your devices. The workshop will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion.

An-in person workshop will be offered at the Wave Farm Study Center at 5662 Route 23 in Acra, NY at 1pm on Saturday July 12th. A virtual workshop will be held via Zoom directly afterwards at 3:30pm. In-person attendees are asked to bring a laptop and smartphone if possible. This workshop is free to attend.

Presented by the Athens Cultural Center and Oldtone Music Festival: monthly gathering on the second Sunday (2-4) of acoustic and stringed instrumentalists of all levels to enjoy playing bluegrass together! A slow jam is a welcoming and supportive, easy-tempo jam session aimed at beginning and intermediate players, but with plenty of room for relaxed experts. The group leader, mandolist Peter Paden of the Wickers Creek Band, will distribute basic chord charts for well-known tunes and songs before the session, and guide all players, no matter their instrument.

The Olana Partnership will hold its monthly Third Thursdays event on July 17 from 1:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Olana State Historic Site, capped off with a special outdoor concert with Hudson Valley views. Olana Third Thursdays are free monthly community days of tours and programs for all ages. All are welcome to celebrate summer with free tours, nature, art, music and history while participating in engaging experiences for the whole family!

This month, visitors can enjoy “Tunes with a View featuring Mariachi Citlalli” from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. as part of Olana’s summer outdoor concert series, and experience vibrant mariachi music and the sounds of Mexico, one of the countries frequently visited by artist Frederic Church, all set against the backdrop of Olana’s stunning views. Family, friends, and a picnic are welcome for this lively outdoor celebration. The performance takes place outside the historic house; visitors can check in at the Visitor Center the day of the event for details. All Third Thursday programs are open to the public.

Senior Curator Sara O’Keeffe provides a special tour of the exhibition Harold Stevenson: Less Real Than My Routine Fantasy, the first institutional solo exhibition in New York of Harold Stevenson (1929–2018).

A one-night-only solo performance by renowned multidisciplinary artist Rahill. A founding member of the seminal NYC psych-rock outfit, Habibi, and a monthly resident on NTS radio, Rahill has garnered a reputation for alchemizing an eclectic range of influences, distilling them into captivating and heavy pop songs that gesture towards the modes and melodies of the Iranian/American household in which she was raised—a heritage she has continued to nurture via successive trips to Iran. Informed by her lifelong, genre-spanning musical explorations, Rahill’s songs occupy a familiar, contemplative mode—blending jazz, trip/hip-hop, and folk traditions spanning east and west.

Craig L. Frank, Ph.D., a longtime researcher at the Huyck Preserve, presents a unique experience with the bats that live at the Preserve. This event will start with a brief presentation on bat ultrasonic biology and, as the sun sets, you will observe acoustic monitoring of the bats flying over Lincoln Pond. Dr. Frank will show participants how the data collected is used to identify the bats as they visit the pond to feed.

The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth by Zoe Schlanger

A discussion of themes of ecology and humanity’s relationship with nature with other book and nature lovers in our reading and hiking club! Each month we will go on a leisurely hike with stopping points for book discussion. Some months will have guest lecturers.

Pirates, prophets, and musical mayhem in “South: A Nautical Musical,” an original musical debuting July 24–August 3 at Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill!

It’s 1860, and a sailor named Wheeler is searching for his missing mother with only a locket to guide him. But in "South: A Nautical Musical," the sea has other plans. This bold, original musical from composer Carmen Borgia sends Wheeler into the path of pirates, relic dealers, tangoing traitors, and an island of self-actualized lesbian cannibals. Livia: A Roman Tragedy, though set in ancient Rome, is an urgent message for our time.

Legendary one-man band The Lonesome Organist makes a rare journey East. This event is organized by the Rensselaerville Library and hosted at the Huyck Preserve.

In this class, he shares exercises that improve postural stability, core strength, spatial body awareness, sensory integration, agility, and coordination. Hudson HUD-TV and Circle 46 Gallery will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 2pm at 46 Green Street, Hudson, NY. Long running, peripatetic cable access station HUD-TV is moving to its new home in Circle 46 Gallery, and we are pleased to invite the public to celebrate with us. Station president and CEO Leopold Chartwell is scheduled to make a statement and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. HUD-TV has been a long-time media resource for the Hudson, NY area. Established 4+ decades ago HUD-TV is a solid, though enigmatic local entertainment and news resource. HUD-TV is also an artist residency project by Mark Allen.

An evening of new and in-progress movement works from the 2025 cohort of Art Omi: Dance Residents. The Dance Showing features unique collaborative pieces created in response to the grounds and studio spaces at Art Omi by dance artists from around the world.

Gothic​-polka band Dust Bowl Faeries and their spirit animal Hazel invites you to join them for a night of musical intrigue as ​they investigate the mysterious death of ​ legendary taxidermy familiar, Hazel the Ram. Hazel lives on in the afterlife as a re-gendered spirit guide, but her soul cannot rest until the truth of her murderous decapitation and taxidermical conversion is revealed and justice is served. You can help solve the mystery whilst enjoying an evening of dark cabaret music. Audience members will be invited to participate as both characters and jury members in this macabre musical tableau.

Sunday, August 3 at 2 pm, the MTHS’s Train Station will house an exhibit of the works of Nathan Dolinsky (1890 – 1980), an artist, instructor, and founder of Camp Schoharie. Nathan Dolinsky was a long-time resident of Hunter, where he painted a variety of subjects in his studio into his 80’s.

He encouraged people to visit the “Dream Garden” a space and home, he designed as a wedding present to his sister, to celebrate the fine arts. He began his formal training at the age of 10 and was the youngest exhibitor at the famous 1913 Armory Exhibition in NYC. At 23 he began a 6 year tenure as an instructor at Cooper Union, married a beautiful nurse named Blossom, toured Europe, and returned to Hunter to found Camp Schoharie in the 1920’s. His works are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute and the Munson Museum.

The exhibit will include several works and prints of others representing his portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes. It will also include a diorama of the “Dream Garden” grounds and indoor space. The exhibit is curated by Carol Slutzky-Tenerowicz assisted by Johanna Titus. Viewing hours are Saturdays and Sundays during the month of August, from 10-3 each day.

An all new edition of our biennial outdoor theatrical triptych. Three original new works will be presented as a roving performance with audiences traveling by car to experience each play in a secret site-specific location where the setting becomes one of the characters!

February 6, 2025: Basic Audio Concepts 

Session objectives include an overview of common and useful terms related to acoustic, electronic, and digital ecologies, with a technical focus on audio transduction and microphone varieties. Additional topics for discussion include psychoacoustics—the branch of science studying the psychological responses associated with sound—with a focus on physical spatial considerations and panning/width in recording.

March 6, 2025: Filters

Session objectives include an introduction to common concepts related to filters in audio production, including frequency response, polar pattern, and equalization. Participants will also learn about The Fletcher Munson Curve, frequency masking, and infrasound, and how to apply these concepts to your work. We will also consider recording height and how to address unwanted plosives and sibilance.

April 3, 2025: Considering Loudness when Recording

Session objectives include strategies for achieving desired “depth” in your recordings. Topics include gain staging, dynamic range, compression, and the concept of distance in recording, including reverb and distortion.

May 1, 2025: Editing Bootcamp

Editing bootcamp! We will cover hotkeys, fades, matching takes, punching in/out, layering tracks, and bus processing. Participants will learn shortcuts for quicker and better edits, as well as bulk import/export strategies.

June 5, 2025: Creative processing

Session objectives include strategies for creating your own audio effects (FX). Topics include delays, filters, autopan, and time stretching. Participants will learn about sequences FX and FX automation in order to achieve the sounds you are imagining.

July 3, 2025: Multitrack Mixing

Session objectives include strategies for mixing multitrack sessions for full height, width, and depth without murkiness. The goal of this session is to understand how to make multiple tracks fit together in a mix. Attendees will participate in critical listening for frequency range, dynamics, and headroom.

August 7, 2025: The Physical Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include an overview of crucial care and maintenance of recording equipment to ensure longevity of your tools, including a hands-on introduction to soldering and light electronic repairs.

September 4, 2025: The Intangible Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include discussions about analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion and digital audio processing. Specific topics will include block size, sample rate, bit depth, compression, streaming, and physical media. Additional topics include how best to manage computer resources in large sessions, latency for high track count, and CPU intensive processing.

October 2, 2025: Understanding Monitoring Sources and Taking it to the Stage

Session objectives include a conceptual overview of possible monitoring sources: speakers, headphones, and subwoofers, as well as the impacts of the space or room on your recording quality. Additional topics will include techniques for recording live performance, including ringing out microphones, PA system safety, microphone techniques, and streaming.

Jen Kutler is a multidisciplinary artist and Technical Director of Wave Farm. Kutler modifies found objects that are cultural signifiers of power, gender, queerness, and intimacy to create atypical instruments and sculptures. Her performances feature many of her instruments incorporated with immersive field recordings to explore common and discrepant experiences of familiar social tones in immersive sound and media environments. Let’s come together and care for the land! This month’s volunteer work party will take place at Hand Hollow.

While floating in Meizinger Lake, participants will help care for this special place by removing invasive water chestnuts from the water.

All are welcome at this fun, friendly volunteer event!

What’s involved: This volunteer event will include walking .1 miles to the Jim Woodruff Memorial Kayak Launch and sitting and paddling a kayak for an extended period in direct sun. Please note that this event will start at the Gale Road entrance!

What to bring: Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. Kayaks will be provided, but CLC welcomes individuals to bring their own kayaks.

Announcing the 2025 West Stockbridge Zucchini Festival, Saturday August 9th, 10am to 10pm! Rain or Shine!

The beloved all-day, Berkshire-based event celebrates our unique community and pays homage to everyone’s favorite staple summer squash: the Zuke! This year’s schedule will feature Berkshire County vendors, goods, artists, food, handcrafted Zucchini games, Zucchini contests, tons of live music all day, featuring post-rock electronic band Reliant Tom at 8:30pm, a live Fire Show performance by Cirque De Light at 9:30pm and so much more! The WSZF is a fun, inclusive and kid-friendly event. Come one, come all!

WSZF is a labor of love–sponsored by the West Stockbridge Cultural Council, 100% organized and run by volunteers, neighbors and friends. All festival games, contraptions, booths, artwork, and decorations have been dreamt up and handcrafted by the lovely folks in the W.S. community. All proceeds from WSZF games and merchandise go to the WS Cultural Council Zucchini Festival Fund for future community events.

Columbia County Sanctuary Movement hosts their 2nd Caribbean Festival in Albany, NY From 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Jennings Landing!

Last Year's Festival was one for the books! It was filled with good vybez, music, and laughter. The Caribbean Festival drew 2,500 attendees throughout multiple states. The Festival showcased 16 live performances, highlighting artist across various genres of music within the diaspora. This year's Caribbean Festival will boast an array of popular local and international musical and cultural performances. We will have traditional stilt walkers, healing stations, circus and other activities for kids, community resource tables, and more.

All are invited to join us for a day of community family fun with the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement.

Seed Song Farm hosts an afternoon of collaborative eco-art along our agroecology trail, followed by a relaxing evening of local beer, wine, and farm-fresh snacks. Come create, connect, and unwind in nature.

Forest Bathing is a Japanese practice. It’s a process of relaxation; known in Japan as shinrin yoku. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply can help both adults and children de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way. Beth Lewis Rennig will lead the group on a 90-minute Forest Bathing experience, helping to ease us into the presence and connection within nature, on the MTHS grounds.

A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon by Kevin Fedarko

Back by popular demand, Sarah Van Buren (SVB), Hudson Area Library's new Youth Services Manager, facilitates a third round of Youth DJ Workshops, for ages 9-18. This will include a series of studio days with a final performance when our newly trained DJs take the stage for the whole community to enjoy. Participants will gain knowledge and skills related to analog music-playing, a collection of their own vinyl records, and a chance to take home their own record player (based on workshop attendance). Yoga for Gardening with Pamela Martin at the Mountain Top Arboretum.

Sessions run Wednesdays from June 11- October 8; Class is from 3:15-4:15 (feel free to join us beforehand for volunteer gardening!)

You're welcome to join us for outdoor* yoga classes led by Pamela Martin and other local yoga teachers. Learn tips and tricks to avoid injury, and to help support the body during gardening and yard work. A stretch and strength class appropriate for multiple levels. Please bring a mat, water, sunscreen and bug spray. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.

* in case of inclement weather, sessions will take place indoors in the Education Center.

This program starts just after our garden volunteering ends. Please feel free to join us for volunteer gardening.

We are stepping outside of the Hudson Area Library for our summer Fix-It Picnic, back at Waterfront Wednesdays! Hang with us by the river and experiment with natural dyes. Bring a light-colored piece of natural fabric (ex. 100% cotton, wool, etc.) or clothing and dip it into one of our community dye baths. As usual, there will also be plenty of time to work on the sewing, t-shirt weaving, mending, or crafting projects of your choice. The LikeMindedObjects team will be on hand with supplies and tools to help develop your skills. Open to all ages and skill levels!

You're invited to join Stewardship Coordinator Garrett Chisholm every Thursday to help tackle the invasive species that threaten the health of the Preserve. Volunteers will learn how to identify and manage a different invasive species every week.

Dr. Paul Spector is certified as a trainer with the American Academy of Sports Medicine. In this class, he shares exercises that improve postural stability, core strength, spatial body awareness, sensory integration, agility, and coordination. The class will serve as an important space for community through its focus on healthy connection, breathing, and its encouraging atmosphere.

An emotionally-charged, darkly funny, gut-punch of a piece, this large scale performance combines theater, music, and dance, which collide into each other in unexpected ways.

Inspired by the writing of Anton Chekhov, Life in this House is Over is a tragicomic work set at a funeral and a wake, entering a world beyond known logic to examine the social awkwardness, humor, and weirdness of grief.

Shay asks questions Chekhov posed years before: how do we move forward when an uncertain future presses on a dying past, where emblems of nostalgia are intertwined with the complexities of human suffering? Is connection possible in a world drawn taut by the force of imminent change?

The piece was developed at Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, where Shay was a guest artist & researcher. It features artists from two significant theatrical lineages: current and former artists of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (including luminary Julie Shanahan, who returns to PS21) and the Polish Grotowski Institute theatre company, Teatr ZAR. A kaleidoscope of artistic influences, the work erupts from one medium to the other, refusing to impose a single viewpoint, leaving the door open for the audience to comprehend a myriad of themes.
