Are you passionate about agriculture and dreaming of starting your own farm? Did you start farming in 2023 or 2024 and still seek more help? You are welcome to join us for the Aspiring Farmers Meeting, a unique opportunity to connect with Cornell Cooperative Extension Educators and agricultural service providers to receive invaluable guidance on your agricultural journey.

This informative event will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM at CCE Rensselaer County, 99 Troy Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061.

This day-long workshop will offer:
Expert advice: Gain insights on essential topics like land acquisition, crop selection, financial planning, and navigating regulations.
Networking opportunities: Connect with fellow aspiring farmers and agricultural service providers to develop meaningful relationships for future collaboration.

Columbia and Greene Counties – Spring Gardening Day will take place on two Saturdays in March! March 22 at the Extension Education Center in Hudson and March 29 at the Agroforestry Resource Center in Acra. Each day will feature four educational workshops led by knowledgeable Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs). They will cover a variety of gardening topics designed to inspire and inform. Participants will also enjoy a light breakfast and the opportunity to shop at the Master Gardeners Marketplace. The marketplace will offer gently used books, gardening tools, and plant cuttings.

“Spring Gardening Day is all about fostering a love of gardening and building a stronger connection to the natural world,” said Xandra Powers, Community Horticulture Coordinator. “Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this event offers something for everyone, from expert-led workshops to unique finds at the marketplace.”

This year’s workshops include an engaging mixture of topics:

From Seed to Vase– Learn the art of planning and growing of flowers to create bouquets.
Invasives– Learn to identify and manage invasive pests to protect your garden.
Bees and Beyond – A Master Beekeeper and MGV will share fascinating insights into the world of bees and their vital role in our gardens.
Gardening for Nocturnal Pollinators – Learn to design a garden that supports and attracts night-flying pollinators like moths and bats.
Gardening Tips– A treasure trove of tried-and-true gardening tips and tricks from experienced Master Gardeners.
Landscaping with Native Plants for Pollinators – Explore the benefits of native plants and create pollinator-friendly landscapes.
Tool Care 101 – Learn how to maintain and care for your gardening tools.
Designing and Planting a Wildflower Meadow– Get practical tips on creating a thriving wildflower meadow.

Additionally, on March 29 only, attendees can participate in a hands-on workshop: Build Your Own Worm Bin!

In addition to workshops and shopping, attendees can look forward to door prizes and the chance to meet other gardening enthusiasts in the community.

Guest speakers will be Riham Barghouti, a founding member of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), and a longtime organizer for Palestinian rights in NYC; and Rebecca Vilkomerson, the Executive Director of the national organization Jewish Voice for Peace from 2009 - 2019, and co-author of the new book, "Solidarity Is the Political Version of Love." Barghouti and Vilkomerson will share information about the origins, principles, and strategy of the BDS movement, as well as practical examples of effective BDS campaigns. Local organizers will discuss the Break the Bonds New York State (BTBNYS) campaign. Discussion will follow.

A familiar name for musical life in FPC and in Hudson, Phil Roebuck leads us in the celebration of the songs of early America.

You can come and lend us your voice on March 22 as Phil Roebuck leads us in song with uplifting music held in at First Presbyterian Church Hudson's interior space. We will be celebrating the remarkable roots of early America, and songbooks will be provided as we join our voices together in celebration and education of early American folk.

The Hudson Junior/Senior High School Drama Club is presenting the family-friendly show of the Broadway musical “ANNIE!” Opening night will be March 21, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., with additional shows at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22nd, and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23rd. All performances are in the Hudson Jr./Sr. High school auditorium located at 215 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, NY.

Chronogram Conversations: The State of Cannabis in New York is an evening of discussion and networking on March 26 at the Fuller Building in Kingston. This panel discussion—part of our Chronogram Conversations series—will bring together dispensary owners, cannabis farmers, and industry experts to explore the victories, setbacks, and future of legal cannabis in the state.

In addition to the panel, local cannabis businesses and advocacy organizations will be on hand to share resources and insight. New Zealand-born pop artist Kimbra is a songwriter, musician, producer, and performer currently based in NYC. In 2011, she debuted her first album, "Vows, Bowed" as well as a duet with Gotye on the song "Somebody I Used To Know". She released her most recent album, "Primal Heart", last year.

Born in Santa Cruz, California, into a family of artists, Kendra McKinley has been immersed in a spectrum of performance mediums from a young age. Her most recent LP, "WHERE DOES A BODY BEGIN?", released in 2023 and her upcoming EP "music for smoking weed with your bra off" is entirely performed and produced by McKinley. She is currently based in New York's Hudson Valley

If you work in a creative field and struggle with the bookkeeping side of your practice, this workshop is for you. Artist and self-employed bookkeeper Amanda C. Mathis will guide you through basic bookkeeping procedures that will help you keep your business finances organized so you’ll feel ready when it’s time to file your taxes. We’ll review various systems for tracking financials, how to use a chart of accounts, what types of expenses are deductible and how they should be categorized, as well as other helpful bookkeeping tips.
