The Harry Conklin Fund for Farmsteads was formed in response. Through community donations, the fund acquires farmland to lease to a local farmer for growing and housing. The first leaseholder will be Molly Comstock of Colfax Farms. Donations made at this concert will go directly to help save Berkshire farmland and find a new home for Molly Comstock and Colfax Farm.

Tatsuya Nakatani is an avant-garde percussionist, composer, and artist of sound. Active internationally since the 1990s, Nakatani has released over 80 recordings and tours extensively, performing over 150 concerts a year. His primary focus is his solo work and his large ensemble project, the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. He teaches master classes and lectures at universities and music conservatories around the world. Originally from Japan, he makes his home in the desert town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. With his activity in new music, improvisation, and experimental music, Nakatani has a long history of collaboration. Nakatani's distinctive music centered around his adapted bowed gong, supported by an array of drums, cymbals, and singing bowls. In consort with his personally hand-carved Kobo Bows, he has spent decades refining and developing his sound as an arrangement of formations of vibrations, incorporated in shimmering layers of silence and texture. Within this contemporary work, one can still recognize the dramatic pacing, formal elegance and space (ma) felt in traditional Japanese music.
Bobby Previte is a composer and performer whose work explores the nexus between notated and improvised music. One of the seminal figures of the 1980s New York ‘Downtown’ scene, Previte is the recipient of the 2015 Greenfield Prize for music and was a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow in 2012. He has received multiple awards for composition from the NEA, NYFA, NYSCA, New Music USA, The Jerome Foundation, The New York State Music Fund, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the American Music Center. Mr. Previte has been an artist-in-residence at the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Italy, Civitella Ranieri, The Montalvo Arts Center, The Hermitage Artist Retreat, and nine times at the MacDowell Colony. His original compositions have been recorded and released on Sony, Elektra, Rykodisc, Palmetto, New World, Ropeadope, Tzadik, Thirsty Ear, Cantaloupe and Rarenoise. Leading a plethora of diverse ensembles from his instrument, the drums, he has collaborated with many of the leading lights in and beyond the world of music, including master composer John Adams, iconic singer Tom Waits, pantheon filmmaker Robert Altman, and most recently, rock legend Iggy Pop. His music has been labeled as ‘utterly original,’ by the New York Times, while The New Yorker has said his ensembles ‘speak in visionary tongues.’ Mr. Previte has given master classes at schools and universities around the world including The Eastman School of Music, The New School, Bard College, and Princeton University. His recent work includes: TERMINALS, Five Concertos for Percussion Ensemble and Soloist, with SO Percussion, released October 28th, 2014 by Cantaloupe Music, GONE, with Bobby Previte & the Visitors, released summer 2016 on the forTune label, TERMINALS QUARTETS, the percussion only version of Terminals, summer 2016, by Cantaloupe Music, and MASS, a music in nine parts for choir, pipe organ, and metal trio, released April 2017 by Rarenoise Records. His newest work, RHAPSODY, a song cycle on the subject of migration, was commissioned by the Greenfield Prize at the Hermitage Artist Retreat, and premiered April 21, 2017 at New College in Sarasota, Florida. Scored for acoustic guitar, harp, piano, voice, drums and saxophone, and featuring a powerhouse band of Zeena Parkins, John Medeski, Nels Cline, Fabian Rucker, and Jen Shyu, RHAPSODY was released in January, 2018 by Rarenoise.

PREVIEW PREMIERE: Inside Spaces, an electro-acoustic collaboration by trumpeter, santur player, vocalist, and composer Amir ElSaffar and electronics performer and composer Lorenzo Bianchi-Hoesch. Inside Spaces blends microtonal harmonies, maqam (melodic modes unique to Arabic music), and jazz improvisation in a modular marvel of cross-cultural music-making. ElSaffar and Bianchi-Hoesch create an immersive sound that transcends notions of form, musical language, and categorization. ElSaffar and Bianchi-Hoesch are fashioning a modular work that interfuses composed elements with improvisation. Inside Spaces explores electro-acoustics and microtonality that embraces multiple musical languages to create a sonic environment that draws on the richness, complexity, and idiomatic expression of jazz, contemporary classical music, maqam, raga, and other musical backgrounds, without compromise or oversimplification. They are in search of boundaryless spaces in music.

Dust Bowl Faeries: A faerie-tale fusion of dark cabaret, gothic polka and post-punk music, Dust Bowl Faeries is a dark-carnival band from the New York Hudson Valley. The band's eclectic repertoire of songs draw inspiration from circus songs, murder ballads and Eastern European folk tunes. Accordion, singing saw, acoustic guitar, lap-steel, bass and percussion combine to create the Dust Bowl Faeries otherworldly sound. The band was founded by Ryder Cooley (faerie queen) and her taxidermy spirit animal, Hazel the Ram. Ryder and Hazel are joined by Jon B. Woodin (rocket faerie), Liz LoGiudice (river faerie), Andrew Stein (time faerie) & Rubie LaRue (feisty faerie). Dust Bowl Faeries released their second album, The Plague Garden, in 2020. They previously released two EP's with producer Floyd Fisher, and a self titled album featuring Tommy Stinson (Replacements) & Melora Creager (Rasputina). Their forthcoming EP, Carnival Dust, features harpist Mikaela Davis.
Oliver Myles Mashburn is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and visual artist based in Hudson, NY. Oliver began writing music as a young teenager in NYC, influenced by the local punk rock scene and mid-century blues musicians like Muddy Waters and R.L. Burnside, as well as the rockabilly twang of Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash.
Phillip Roebuck is a Virginia-born, New York-bred songster and bare bones one-man band. With punk rock intensity, Roebuck stomps out beats on a classic, depression-era drum apparatus, while strumming the banjo with a fierce ragged-but-right style. Some might call it Roots music for the new millennium.

Join Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow José Alejandro Rivera for this three-part, free workshop series taking place on Monday evenings in November. (Mondays, November 14, 21, and 28, 2022; 5 - 7 p.m. on Zoom*) Email info@wavefarm.org to register. This series of process-based production workshops explore the ways radio can inhabit, be affected by, or create systems of delay, relay, feedback, and loops. How might particular experiences of multiple users across time and space affect dynamics between sender and receiver? How might qualities of simultaneity, “live-ness” and recorded audio be exploited or utilized? What is needed for access and participation in systems where exchanging live/recorded audio is a tool for artistic radio processes?

Participants will have opportunities to engage with precedents that include, but are not limited to, specific works from the Wave Farm Radio Art Archive, create (and respond to) individual pieces that will contribute to a collective audio work, and consider potential possibilities between “one-way” vs. “two-way” processes, networked systems, net/web radio, broadcasting FM/AM, and other methods of sharing audio/transmission.

Each session will be informed by the experience, skills, interests, and engagement of the participants. The sessions will include brief presentation, precedents, group discussion, and interactive experiments, and time to create short (1-2 minute) recordings / audio works. Sessions will also include special guest artist Patrick McGinley (aka murmer) the producer and host of Framework, a weekly radio program dedicated to field recording and its use in composition that airs on over a dozen radio stations around the world.

Prompts will be the basis for the creation of recordings that allow participants to individually respond to one another’s work through sonic means. A series of staggered audio responses will serve as building blocks for the next prompt/response. A possible final result may be a co-created collection of directives, processes, and/or responses that will contribute to an in-person/hybrid listening session and/or broadcast.

Then at 7 p.m. Resonant Mechanisms: The Experimental Tradition in Upstate New York, [Switch~ Ensemble]. Based in New York City and founded in 2012 at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, the [Switch~ Ensemble] presents a concert of new and significant works engaging with the rich tradition of experimental music in Upstate New York with Resonant Mechanisms. Featuring the world premiere of newly commissioned works by composers Victoria Cheah and Jen Kutler, alongside works from Sarah Hennies and Julius Eastman, the program explores a range of modalities in music for quintet and electronics.

"Your Valley, My Valley" is a feature-length pseudo-documentary by Catskill resident Brendan Fay, filmed with an all-Catskill cast over the past three years. Its story paints a light-hearted portrait of a community through the lens of seven seemingly disparate characters — a cowboy, a jingle composer, a journalist, a phonographer, a historian, a painter, and a self-appointed investigator — who are all connected by the legacy of strange phenomena in their beloved Valley. Many are consumed by it, some are dismissive of it, but one man is inspired to action by it, undertaking an epic feat meant to bring healing to the people of the Valley. Even when wrestling with a history of strange occurrences, it turns out there is ample opportunity for laughter. PG-13. Bring your own snacks.

Be a part of Kite's Nest youth's learning universe for a day. Visit the garden and greenhouse and see what the young people at Kite's Nest have been up to during the fall semester. From explorations of the human brain to greenhouse-growing magic and the civic power of visual storytelling, visitors will experience a deep dive into the world students and teachers at Kite's Nest have been immersed in over the past few months. This interactive all-ages expo is an indoor/outdoor event with masks required indoors. Open to the public and all ages are welcome, with activities for kids and families.

Wave Farm is delighted to announce that Tyler Maxin will serve as a 2022/2023 Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow. During his engagement, Maxin will make additions to the Wave Farm Broadcast Radio Art Archive, an online resource, and to the syndicated weekly radio show "The Radio Art Hour." Maxin will also conduct workshops and listening sessions with WGXC programmers and interested members of the public, and create original radio artworks for broadcast.

Tyler Maxin is a researcher and curator based in Brooklyn, New York. He is the Communications and Special Projects Associate at Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), a leading resource for video and media art. In 2022, he co-curated "Jerry Hunt: Transmissions from the Pleroma" at Blank Forms, New York, a multi-pronged initiative that included an exhibition of the late composer's sculptural objects and video work, a series of record reissues, the publication of Stephen Housewright's biographical memoir Partners, and a 368-page journal surveying Hunt's life and career. Maxin's writing has appeared in publications including Artforum, BOMB, Hotel, and Screen Slate.
