Rivera will also conduct workshops and listening sessions with WGXC programmers and interested members of the public, and create original radio artworks for broadcast.

Their layered, place-based practice is informed by a background in music, architecture, and tending land. He regards natural and built environments as woven fabrics of experience and association that exist and change across phenomenological, political, cultural, and aesthetic dimensions. In performances, they often use the space as an instrument, incorporating live and processed location recordings, various microphones and DIY electronics, radios, custom software, samples, and spatialized, textural elements that oscillate between noise and music. José’s encounters with the electromagnetic spectrum pursue expanded states of consciousness, sonic agency, sites of contingency and multiplicity, science fiction, and notions of identity as it relates to neurodivergence, diaspora, and queerness. The sole survivors are five scarecrows, who embrace the roles of dreamers, poets, and activists in a quest for a kinder, less harmful future for the planet. The centerpiece of Pathways 2022 programming, “Farm Fatale” introduces audiences and participants to new European theater in a rural, pristine setting. The work is a cautionary tale about one of the most pressing issues of today’s world. Founder of the aptly named Vivarium Studio, French director and visual artist Philippe Quesne conceives of the theater as a place of temporary habitation within an artificial ecosystem, reimagined to observe a small slice of humanity with reinvented logic. Often developed in collaboration with his actors, Quesne’s works call upon the marvelous and the microscopic, the everyday and the unexpected, theatrical deception and the truth of nature.

Inspired by his experiences of street protests in Seoul, Compagnie Galmae – Juhyung Lee transforms a crowd of PS21 spectators gathered on the land and trails into a problem-solving collective. Faced with a dense maze of string that resembles a spider web, one spectator picks up a stone and starts to roll up the string bound to it, another walks into the middle of the labyrinth and contemplates the unraveling tangle. Passing over and under the threads, the spectators, transformed into actors in the performance, help each other. A neutral space becomes a place of encounters, the individuals form a community. It is fun, participatory, political, playful, and collaborative, and the evening ends with a celebration to commemorate the achievement of working together as a community. In the process, they begin to ask questions: What are individuals when they form groups to pursue a common goal? How do crowds move? How do people work together to solve a problem? Having toured the world, Compagnie Galmae’s collective performance C'est pas là, C'est par là engages audiences with the PS21 landscape, where they join forces to negotiate their relationships to space, place, and one another through a designed environment built specifically for the performance. Playful, political, and participatory, the work epitomizes PS21’s PATHWAYS programming.

The 9th Annual Berkshire Pottery Tour on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25 includes stops in Great Barrington, Stockbridge, Richmond, Monterey, and New Marlborough. The self-guided 9th Annual Berkshire Pottery Tour is designed in a geographic loop and participants can start at any of the five studios. Orange and white Berkshire Pottery Tour road signs will be posted at key turns on the weekend of the event.
