In partnership with Wave Farm, Phil Kline's Unsilent Night returns to Hudson for a third year. Led by Phil Kline himself and broadcast live on Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM: Radio For Open Ears. Participants gather at WGXC's Hudson Studio (369 Warren Street) inside the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson at Warren and 4th Streets (entrance on 4th). Participants can expect a route that engages Hudson's lesser traveled alleys and enclaves, and to come away with a new experience of the city's historic streetscape.
All are invited to participate. To do so:
Arrive to the WGXC Hudson Studio / First Presbyterian Church no later than 6:45 p.m.
Bring a boombox or smartphone with external speakers. (If you plan to use your smartphone, we recommend that you visit unsilentnight.com/participate before the event to download a track or the Unsilent Night app.)
A limited supply of boomboxes will be available to borrow on a first-come first-served basis.
Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December, always as a free event. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music. Originally the music was played using only cassette tapes in boomboxes, but as vintage boomboxes have become harder to find, more people use smartphones with portable speakers to blast the music. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. Visit unsilentnight.com for more information.

ocal Charles Dickens enthusiast Stewart Sommerville will
present a discussion of the Christmas writings of Charles
Dickens. Although known primarily for the iconic A Christmas
Carol, Dickens’ association with the holiday remains a powerful
influence on Anglo-American holiday celebrations to this day.
Mr. Sommerville will discuss how this relationship changed
traditional Victorian celebrations of the holiday through the
entire cannon of Dickens’ Christmas writings prior to and
including A Christmas Carol and beyond.
Light refreshments will be served.

Directly following Santa’s arrival on the Village Green, the Hudson Valley’s own Robert Burke Warren – aka Uncle Rock – returns to the Colony to play another rollicking set of rocking holiday tunes! Expect to hear faves like Chuck Berry’s “Run, Run Rudolph,” the Springsteen arrangement of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and Brenda Lee’s “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” as well as traditional classic singalongs. “It’s a community event, for families, singletons, youngsters, elders, everyone,” Robert says. “The kitchen and the bar will be open, and they’ll be serving hot chocolate, mulled cider, and hot toddies. Folks can drop in and get warm in front of the fireplace, and connect with friends and fellow community members before heading home from Santa’s arrival.”
