Weekly classes will resume on Tuesdays with two levels: Advanced Beginner (5:30-6:30pm) for students of Spanish who have taken at least an introductory course in the language, and Intermediate (6:45-7:45pm) for those conversational in Spanish and who wish to further develop their skills. There will be a celebration of the students’ work at the conclusion of the series for both levels on December 4 from 5:30-7pm. Adults and high school students are welcome.

Helsinki Hudson hosts their next On The Fly story slam. Audience members can put their name in the hat to tell their own stories or enjoy an evening of fabulous storytelling by local storytellers. The theme of the night is work, featuring stories of dreadful jobs and demanding bosses, labor of love and passion, co-workers and careers, work you make and work you have had done.

The Catskill Town Board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Board Committee meetings usually held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

The Hudson Area Library and the City of Hudson Senior Center are offering a 12-week Creative Writing class, taught by author, artist, educator, and social activist Maureen McNeil. Held weekly on Thursdays from September 20 through December 13, the series runs from 2:30 to 4pm. Students will explore memories, sensory observation, dreams, autobiography, fiction, and poetry, and will share a selection of their work. All levels of writers are welcome. A zine of student work will be available at the library and on the library’s website, and a final celebration of student writing will be held in the library on December 13.

An evening of theremin, piano, and synths with Pamelia Stickney and Brian Dewan. Stickney is an American theremin player who has performed and recorded with David Byrne, Yoko Ono, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Seb Rochford, Otto Lechner and Simone Dinnerstein, and was instrumental to the final design of Robert Moog's Etherwave Pro Theremin, for which she was the primary test musician. The Hudson Dusters will be joined at Helsinki by special guest James Hearne. Doors open at 6pm.

This workshop with Sandy Orris begins indoors at the Eldridge Research Station, 284 Pond Hill Road, Rensselaerville, with a demonstration on using colored pencils for accurate botanical sketching. The use of colored pencils for keeping an illustrated science journal will also be discussed. Participants will be able to work indoors or outdoors on a project of their choice. Please bring your own colored pencils and a drawing pad. The event is open to everyone age 15 and up. Please make sure to pack a lunch and drink.

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library host a book and bake sale in the community room of the library. Used books on a variety of subjects, including art books will be for sale. There will also be homemade baked desserts for sale during this event.

Seed bead weaving is a way to add colors and graphic patterns to your craft knowledge repertoire. Workshop will cover how to create simple patterns in traditional flat weave peyote stitch, as well as finishing techniques and an overview of different types of suitable beads and supplies for the project. All needles, thread, and other supplies will be provided.

This workshop will focus on the creative possibilities and technique of rug making using tools and mesh canvas specifically designed for the latch hook technique. You will also be provided with a large array of colors of yarn to work with. The hope of the workshop is to help you explore the applications of this often overlooked handcraft, both conventional and out of the box. You will be provided with all of the necessary tools and materials which you will be able to take home with you to finish your project.

This story hour, with Pamela Badila, provides families with the opportunity to explore stories that formed the traditions and ethics of specific cultures. Sundays through June 28, 2019.

Concerts in the Village presents the Broad Street Orchestra with guest soprano Andrea Bargabos in “Glorious Strings: Light and Darkness in the 19th and 20th Centuries.” Featured will be works for string orchestra: the Romanian and Transylvanian Dances by Bartok, three songs by Sibelius from op. 3 and op. 38, Stravinsky’s exhilarating Concerto in D (“Basle”), Shostakovich’s Adagio and Allegretto, op. 36, and the famous Serenade in E by Dvorak, op. 22. CITV Artistic Director David Smith will conduct, joined by CITV Assistant Conductor Noah Palmer in the Bartok and soprano Andrea Bargabos in the Sibelius.
