The festival explores various genres of music, and the contrasts, influences and relationships between them. Whether hearing a new voice, or exploring a unique rhythm or instrument, the festival hopes to bridge the gap between diverse styles creating a distinctive offering of musical experiences.

This 4-session artist-led program includes interactive tours through the Wassaic Project Summer Exhibition and hands-on creative activities inspired by works on view. Kids look, discuss, and explore in the Maxon Mill galleries through scavenger hunts, observational drawing, and gallery conversations. Artistic projects are developed in relation to the works on display. The program culminates in a mini-exhibition and reception for participating families.

Drones or UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) have become ubiquitous objects and their use has been restricted, expanded, aestheticized, embraced by agriculture and for art. But what is the effect of this new device? The rise of drones has already been compared with the early days of the Internet along with similar legal issues, confusion and competing interests.

Through a range of works this event will look at this device and its implications by utilizing Drones as carriers of messages or actors in performances. Some works will use lights on the Drones in the sky and some works will project light from the Drone to the ground below. Some works will incorporate sound and transmission and others will look at the threatening effect of this eye in the sky. A four-hour class devoted to teaching how to begin, and continue, to carve a wooden spoon. Covered in the class are the basics of wood identification; as well as the layout, carving and finishing a hardwood wooden spoon. Learn about carving technique, and hopefully, by the end of the class, participants will leave with a spoon of their own making, as well as the wood, skills and tools necessary to start another spoon. Participants should specify their dominant hand at application.

In 1954 Marilyn Monroe visited a friend in Claverack to escape New York City and the break-up of her marriage to Joe DiMaggio. She stayed with a friend at a home that has come to be known as “The Marilyn Monroe House”. On Sunday, July 29 at 3 PM, Claverack resident Maureen McNeil will read from her new book, "Dear Red," the Lost Diary of Marilyn Monroe (a work of fiction) in the garden of the house, 361 State Route 23B. The reading will be followed by refreshments and a tour of the first floor of the house led by present owner Julius James. This free program, sponsored by the Claverack Free Library, illuminates the final year of the life of America’s greatest sex symbol and offers a glimpse of Claverack history. Hudson resident Kim Bach shares stories and images from two 3-week sojourns to join the thousands of pilgrims each year who challenge themselves on El Camino de Santiago. 10th annual Wassaic Project Summer Festival.

The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station is hosting a round-table discussion about environmental monitoring led by experts in the field.

The Art Omi Dance Residents will share works created in collaboration with each other at the Dance Showing, a public event that takes place annually near the completion of the three-week program. The residency emphasizes process over product, so the artists will present the fruits of their exchange in the form of unique pieces. Each year's iteration varies, but almost always involve site-specific performance events leading hundreds of visitors throughout Art Omi's campus.

Inspired by Warhol’s Factory, artist Francine Hunter McGivern founded Jungle Red Studios in 1977 in the then-desolate New York City neighborhood of Tribeca. Described by Michael Musto as “the ultra chic spot for witty beautification,” the space soon became known among members of the city’s avant-garde as a dynamic venue for exhibitions and performances. At the same time, under the nom d’arte of Jungle Red, Hunter McGivern developed her own experimental work in multimedia installation, theater, and performance. Episodic Memory l 1977 – present is an expansive, 40 year survey of the artist’s work and features video, photography, drawings, paintings, three-dimensional installations, and ephemera from Jungle Red. This summer's Art Omi Music residents will perform “guerrilla” collaborations in groupings randomly selected by the audience. Now in its 12th year, pianist Armen Donelian and saxophonist Marc Mommaas‘ immersive Hudson Jazz Workshop culminates with a concert at Hudson Hall featuring acclaimed pianist Jean-Michel Pilc. Pilc performs with Donelian and Mommaas alongside an international line-up of workshop participants performing original new works created during the workshop process.

Previte has invited some of his favorite musicians in the Hudson Valley and beyond for these inaugural concerts of his newest project, Blueprints. Starting from 1979 and going forward up to the present moment, Previte has ripped a fragment of nearly every piece of music he has written in the last 39 years and placed them all, divorced from their previous context, into one (very long) document. The ensemble will play, distort, improvise around, and sometimes ignore these fragments. Using hand signals, body movements, and the occasional odd glare, Previte conducts the musicians through the maze, taking a different path every night. Part performance, part open rehearsal, part hang out - where audience members as well as players will see the fragments projected on screen - Blueprints should be a wildly different experience each performance. Ali Smith leads an open-level workshop where participants will learn two different ways to color cloth with natural dyes. Create and experiment with three dye baths- avocado stones, onion skins, and a seasonal foraged pot. Each student will create a swatchbook - an important tool for any natural dyer.

Wave Farm's fourth annual Audio Buffet will take place on Saturday August 25, 2018, 3 - 7 p.m. In 2015, Pauline Oliveros and IONE donated the 32-channel mixing board they once traveled the world with to Wave Farm. Their generous and meaningful donation serves as the fulcrum for the Audio Buffet event, where dozens of acoustic and electronic sound artists come together for a live collaborative and improvisational broadcast on Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM.

A new Spanish-language program of animated, documentary, and live action films full of warmth, wit, and the cultural richness of our friends and neighbors to the south: Mexico. Drawn from the Festival’s annual Friends and Neighbors program spotlighting a different country every year, this lineup is co-curated with Mexico’s Morelia International Film Festival. All films are in Spanish with English subtitles or no dialogue.

Greg Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, interdisciplinary artist, and teacher born and based in New York City. A versatile and prolific creative, Fox studied percussion with Guy Licata, Thurman Barker, Marvin “Bugalu” Smith, has a B.A. in Integrated Arts from Bard College, and has toured, recorded and released numerous records with Liturgy, Guardian Alien, ZS, Ex Eye, Skeletons, Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, Colin Stetson, Ben Frost, and many more.

The library's first curated local history exhibition, "Wish You Were Here: A Look Back at Life in Hudson Through Vintage Postcards," opens September 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. Featuring a presentation on the collection hosted by Gary Sheffer, a native of Hudson, as well as a wine & cheese reception and postcards and t-shirts for sale. The Hudson Area Library History Room has collected an extensive set of postcards from this river city that tell personal stories about life here 100 years ago. Omi: Architecture hosts a book signing with David Sokol, author of "Hudson Modern: Residential Landscapes at the Art Omi Benenson Center." Hudson Modern showcases new houses in the Hudson River Valley that embrace the dramatic settings and cultural bounty of this popular region. Designing residences that revere local climate, landscape, and history in a distinctly modernist language, these talents are sowing a new Hudson River school of architectural thought.

Art Omi: Architecture presents "zoid" by LevenBetts Architects. Located at the Benenson Center at Art Omi and Architecture Field 01, opening to the public September 8 for a two-year exhibition. Based on a single repeatable shape—a right trapezoid—zoid's ultimate objective is to exist as a holistic collective living environment. As an experience of shelter that engages visually and physically with the landscape and experientially with the other pieces in the collection, this iteration of the project intends to create a shelter for an arts venue that provides for collectivity and individuality in a dwelling.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties will be hosting a general information and Phenology Monitoring Training workshop for the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, an invasive insect threatening one of the most important tree species in the northeast. Presented by Charlotte Malmborg of the New York State Hemlock Initiative. Guests will learn about the threat this beetle poses for New York’s forests. The first part of the training will focus on identifying hemlock trees and hemlock woolly adelgid, management techniques for landowners and managers, and biocontrol opportunities. Weekly classes will resume on Tuesdays with two levels: Advanced Beginner (5:30-6:30pm) for students of Spanish who have taken at least an introductory course in the language, and Intermediate (6:45-7:45pm) for those conversational in Spanish and who wish to further develop their skills. Literacy Connections is holding their next volunteer tutor Orientation Session at the Hudson Area Library on Wednesday, September 12th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The follow-up session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the same location. Guests will learn about Literacy Connections, tutoring and other volunteer opportunities, and receive login information to begin the online tutor training module. Basilica SoundScape, a curated weekend that’s been called “the anti­festival” for offering of a mix of music, visual art, and literature, is presented by The Creative Independent’s Brandon Stosuy and Basilica Hudson co-founders Melissa Auf der Maur and Tony Stone with additional creative direction from long-time visual and design director of SoundScape, and former Pitchfork Creative Director Mike Renaud – now head of Chicago-based integrated creative studio Varyer, who are formally joining the team as co-presenters of the event. SoundScape 2018 will also feature the talents of two guest collaborators, author Jenn Pelly (Pitchfork, 33 ⅓: The Raincoats) and head of Sacred Bones Records Caleb Braaten. Hausu Mountain: With one tentacle threaded through the US noise underground and one ear fixed on a worldwide online network of freak-friendly minds, the Hausu Mountain label has pumped a diverse menu of experimental music from its volcanic peak at a steady clip since 2012. Founded in Chicago by musicians and roommates Doug Kaplan (who records as MrDougDoug) and Max Allison (who records as Mukqs), the label originally served as a home for their own projects, including the trio Good Willsmith. As Kaplan and Allison discover new projects from touring the DIY circuit and scraping through the strangest corners of the internet, the label’s wide catalog grows to encompass everything from otherworldly synthesizer composition to frantic beat production in the IDM tradition to strains of free jazz infused with electronics alongside horns or drums – onward through any number of genre-bending mutations you might find in the “???” or “Avant/Noise” bin in your local record store. As much as Hausu Mountain’s releases diverge in terms of style, the label’s aesthetic hinges on the conception of music as a force to both challenge listeners and entertain them in equal measure. Any given release resists stasis, skips at will through disparate musical vocabularies, and leads listeners through dense sonic narratives that defy expectations as each new idea or unpredictable juxtaposition pierces through the cosmic jelly. In addition to LPs and cassettes from the label, we will have a selection of used records culled from our personal collections and adventures.
