Ritz uses her illustration practice to help participants stimulate their own imagination and peace of mind. Each Lumpland Coloring Book features 24 hand-drawn illustrations printed single-sided on heavy off-white paper to support a wide variety of coloring methods, mediums, and techniques. Workshop participants will learn how to “rub off” a pattern from an existing garment; then stitch up a fit sample to test the pattern and tweak it if necessary. In this workshop learn to use sunshine to make images on paper and fabric. Artist Caitlin Parker will teach the process of making cyanotype photograms, one of the oldest forms of photography that doesn't use a camera. Participants will learn how to prepare paper and fabric with light sensitive chemicals, compose images using a wide variety of objects and materials including pressed botanicals, and develop the prints in the sunshine.

Visitors are invited to come hike the Huyck as part of MHLC's annual Hike-a-thon event. Kelly Martin, local animal rehabilitator, will lead participants on a light walk and then conclude with a close look at her rescued animals. All are welcome. Guitarist Mamadou Kelly, from the heart of the Niger Delta in Mali, performs with his band.

The festival explores various genres of music, and the contrasts, influences and relationships between them. Whether hearing a new voice, or exploring a unique rhythm or instrument, the festival hopes to bridge the gap between diverse styles creating a distinctive offering of musical experiences.

For students entering into grades K-6. This 4-session artist-led program includes interactive tours through the Wassaic Project Summer Exhibition and hands-on creative activities inspired by works on view. Kids look, discuss, and explore in the Maxon Mill galleries through scavenger hunts, observational drawing, and gallery conversations. Artistic projects are developed in relation to the works on display. The program culminates in a mini-exhibition and reception for participating families.

Drones or UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) have become ubiquitous objects and their use has been restricted, expanded, aestheticized, embraced by agriculture and for art. But what is the effect of this new device? The rise of drones has already been compared with the early days of the Internet along with similar legal issues, confusion and competing interests.

Through a range of works this event will look at this device and its implications by utilizing Drones as carriers of messages or actors in performances. Some works will use lights on the Drones in the sky and some works will project light from the Drone to the ground below. Some works will incorporate sound and transmission and others will look at the threatening effect of this eye in the sky. A four-hour class devoted to teaching how to begin, and continue, to carve a wooden spoon. Covered in the class are the basics of wood identification; as well as the layout, carving and finishing a hardwood wooden spoon. Learn about carving technique, and hopefully, by the end of the class, participants will leave with a spoon of their own making, as well as the wood, skills and tools necessary to start another spoon. Participants should specify their dominant hand at application.

In 1954 Marilyn Monroe visited a friend in Claverack to escape New York City and the break-up of her marriage to Joe DiMaggio. She stayed with a friend at a home that has come to be known as “The Marilyn Monroe House”. On Sunday, July 29 at 3 PM, Claverack resident Maureen McNeil will read from her new book, "Dear Red," the Lost Diary of Marilyn Monroe (a work of fiction) in the garden of the house, 361 State Route 23B. The reading will be followed by refreshments and a tour of the first floor of the house led by present owner Julius James. This free program, sponsored by the Claverack Free Library, illuminates the final year of the life of America’s greatest sex symbol and offers a glimpse of Claverack history. Hudson resident Kim Bach shares stories and images from two 3-week sojourns to join the thousands of pilgrims each year who challenge themselves on El Camino de Santiago. 10th annual Wassaic Project Summer Festival.

The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station is hosting a round-table discussion about environmental monitoring led by experts in the field.

The Art Omi Dance Residents will share works created in collaboration with each other at the Dance Showing, a public event that takes place annually near the completion of the three-week program. The residency emphasizes process over product, so the artists will present the fruits of their exchange in the form of unique pieces. Each year's iteration varies, but almost always involve site-specific performance events leading hundreds of visitors throughout Art Omi's campus.

Inspired by Warhol’s Factory, artist Francine Hunter McGivern founded Jungle Red Studios in 1977 in the then-desolate New York City neighborhood of Tribeca. Described by Michael Musto as “the ultra chic spot for witty beautification,” the space soon became known among members of the city’s avant-garde as a dynamic venue for exhibitions and performances. At the same time, under the nom d’arte of Jungle Red, Hunter McGivern developed her own experimental work in multimedia installation, theater, and performance. Episodic Memory l 1977 – present is an expansive, 40 year survey of the artist’s work and features video, photography, drawings, paintings, three-dimensional installations, and ephemera from Jungle Red. Cornell Cooperative Extension Environment and Natural Resource staff and wildflower enthusiast Tracey Testo explore the edge lands of Siuslaw Model Forest to search for the colorful blooms of late summer. The Voodoo Orchestra, led by jazz drummer, improviser, and composer Bobby Previte, is devoted to exploring the music of Miles Davis's eternal electric jazz-funk masterpiece, "Bitches Brew." Featuring Tyler Wood on Hammond organ and Moog synthesizer, Tony Kieraldo on Fender Rhodes piano, Jonathan Talbott on violin, Keith Pray on soprano saxophone, and Marcus DeGrazia on baritone saxophone. Singer/songwriter, Maggie Rothwell, plays guitar and sings in the gazebo. original compositions. Rothwell is a Crane School of Music graduate and has been playing and teaching music locally for many years. She also works as a music therapist at several nursing care facilities, teaches music at a local daycare center, and hosts the weekly open mic at Taste Budd's Café in Red Hook.

Columbia County Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a family fishing event on Wednesday, August 15th from 11 am to 2 pm at Nutten Hook, Ice House Road, in Stuyvesant. Participants will learn how to fish and what kinds of fish live in the Hudson River. No experience or reservations required. We run a fully stocked fishing program, and will have a fish display tank where you can observe some of the Hudson’s finned residents. Literacy Connections volunteer teams provide drop-in classes for speakers of other languages throughout Columbia and Greene Counties. Especially needed are volunteers who can assist with the Hudson classes on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and/or Thursday mornings 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Czech avant-garde violinist, singer, and composer Iva Bittová and Russian folk and jazz performer and composer Sergey Starostin join forces for an evening of improvisation and of “past perspectives filtered through the now.”

For many years, artist Bruno Pasquier-Desvignes’ summer parties were a not-to-be-missed highlight of the social calendar. Set amongst the lush, labyrinthine gardens of his Livingston farmhouse, visitors not only enjoyed the delicious first strawberries of the season, but had the opportunity to step into the magical world of the artist’s mind. Caroline Crumpacker is a member of Belladonna Collaborative and the High Meadow School Board of Directors, and was founding Poetry Editor of Fence magazine. Aimee Harrison‘s fiction and poetry have appeared in journals such as the Lifted Brow, Indefinite Space, and The Inman Review. She is a co-founder of Small Po[r]tions Journal, and a co-founder of St Rocco's Reading Series. Cole Heinowitz is the translator of "Advice from 1 Disciple of Marx to 1 Heidegger Fanatic" (Wave Books, 2013) and the author of three books of poetry. Heinowitz is Associate Professor of Literature at Bard College.

Big Blood, a “phantom four-piece” from Portland, ME, performs at Quinn's in Beacon. Featuring Colleen Kinsella, Caleb Mulkerin and their daughter, Quinnisa. Sowndhauz is an electro-lingo duo comprised of Matt Harle, music, and Edwin Torres, words. Edwin Torres has been a fixture in the New York City poetry scene for many years. Bobby Previte's Blueprints. Hudson valley composer Bobby Previte leads a conceptual performance, with webcasts at wgxc.org and wavefarm.org. Previte has invited some of his favorite musicians in the Hudson Valley and beyond for these inaugural concerts of his newest project, Blueprints. Starting from 1979 and going forward up to the present moment, Previte has ripped a fragment of nearly every piece of music he has written in the last 39 years and placed them all, divorced from their previous context, into one (very long) document. The ensemble will play, distort, improvise around, and sometimes ignore these fragments. Using hand signals, body movements, and the occasional odd glare, Previte conducts the musicians through the maze, taking a different path every night. Part performance, part open rehearsal, part hang out - where audience members as well as players will see the fragments projected on screen - Blueprints should be a wildly different experience each performance. The rocks of Rensselaerville record local history from long before dinosaurs. Particpants can explore the local geology and deep-time history on a walk along the falls with Dr. Charles Ver Straeten of the New York State Museum. Semi-rugged walk; sturdy footwear required. Ali Smith leads an open-level workshop where participants will learn two different ways to color cloth with natural dyes. Create and experiment with three dye baths- avocado stones, onion skins, and a seasonal foraged pot. Each student will create a swatchbook - an important tool for any natural dyer.

Wave Farm's fourth annual Audio Buffet will take place on Saturday August 25, 2018, 3 - 7 p.m. In 2015, Pauline Oliveros and IONE donated the 32-channel mixing board they once traveled the world with to Wave Farm. Their generous and meaningful donation serves as the fulcrum for the Audio Buffet event, where dozens of acoustic and electronic sound artists come together for a live collaborative and improvisational broadcast on Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM.
