free103point9 collaborates with The Wounded Knees on a site-specific transmission as part of their performance for the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the Catskills. 2:15 p.m. performance.
Using FM transmission, the Knees and will diffuse their sound throughout the entire space by giving their audience radios, encompassing and empowering them with their own voice for the performance. FM transmission is made possible by the radio-wave-wizardry of free103point9.
The Wounded Knees are sometimes joined in live shows by J Mascis. J plays Atomic Guitar on the track Dirty Exploding Sonic Dogfight, otherwise known as Dirty, on the All Rise EP. For their All Tomorrow's Parties 2008 appearance, The Wounded Knees will be joined by Mascis and his Atomic Guitar, new-comer-drummer Mike Pinaud, and radio-wave transmitters free103point9. The Wounded Knees are Jimi Shields (Rollerskate Skinny, Lotus Crown, Martina Topley-Bird), and Suzanne Thorpe (Mercury Rev, Forest for the Trees, thenumber46), playing Guild D35 with Vocals, and Revolution Flute, respectively, and later joined by Rolling Drummer Phil Williams (Hopewell, Evil Twins). The pirate-punk trio was united by their distinct dissatisfaction in latch-key-child governments who embezzle their own conscience, and, cross-their-hearts-hope-to-die, lie about their misdoings. Injustice yielding to frustration was channeled into sound, and, like lightning cracking an old oak tree, the anthems of All Rise were born.
