In this rebroadcast of Jason Kahn's sound work Unheard Zürich, produced in 2007, Kahn captures a city through its soundscape, and its residents through their perception of the sounds that surround them.

Writes Kahn, "In the radio piece "Unheard Zürich" I interviewed people from Zürich about what their favorite sound or sounding place in the city was and made recordings of these places and sounds.I decided to have the people interviewed speak in their native language (Swiss German, Italian, English), as this also reflects the sound of Zürich. Unheard Zürichis another in my series of Unheard Citiesworks, where I investigate how people living in cities perceive the sounds around them.

Unheard Zürich includes interviews with Magali Bucher, Mattea Gianotti, Jason Kahn, Mira Kahn, Hansjörg Köfler, Tomas Korber, Marcus Maeder, Dave Phillips, Ralph Steinbrüchel, Christof Steinmann, Christian Weber, and Manfred Werder.

The Human Machine is a program that presents projects, sounds, performance and research on the subject of the increasing convergence of humans and technology. This program, produced by Jeremy Kelly, includes: Coil - Are You Shivering?, Richard Maxfield - Pastoral Symphony, Rune Lindblad - Till Zakynthos (op.205), Gog - 3, Daphne Oram - Dr. Faustus Suite, Annea Lockwood - Tiger Balm , and Kim Cascone - Zephirum Scan.

The second edition of The Hall of Fame Spotlight with a look back at KNBS, a shortwave pirate radio station. KNBS took to the air in January of 1985 to advocate decriminalization of marijuana. Front man Phil Muzik used a low-key approach, playing pot-themed music and reminding listeners that in a “free country” the individual, not the government, had the constitutional right to make the decisions in his or her life. Studio engineer Pot Seedy was never heard on the air, and usually couldn’t be seen in the booth because of all the pot smoke in there. The station used the slogan “The Station With Your Mind In Mind.”The station was owned and operated by the California Marijuana Cooperative and claimed a transmitter site on Alcatraz Island, in San Francisco Bay. In later years KNBS was joined by a Canadian relay station, CNBS, but it was difficult to tell which transmitter was in use for any broadcast since it was never announced.

During this winter, Cinema Terrorisme will broadcast on alternating Saturdays on "The Human Machine" on WGXC. Cinema Terrorisme is an audio signal using cut-up methods and collage in order to distill the horror of modern existential malaise into substantiate energy mass. From the Radia network, The School of Creative Radio TEA FM from Zaragoza has developed a new radio documentary based on the works and sounds made by Daphne Oram (Dec 31th 1923 - Jan 5th 2003) British composer and electronic musician. She was the creator of the "Oramics" technique for creating electronic sounds. Developed in documentary form, we will cross the sounds created by her "Oramics Machine" and we will talk with people close to her and her work. In 1959 she installed her Oramics Studios for Electronic Composition in Tower Folly, a converted oast house at Fairseat, near Wrotham, Kent. Her output from the studio, mostly commercial, covered a far wider range than the Radiophonic Workshop, providing background music for not only radio and television but also theatre and short commercial films. She was also commissioned to provide sounds for installations and exhibitions. Other work from this studio included electronic sounds for Jack Clayton's 1961 horror film The Innocents, concert works including Four Aspects and collaborations with opera composer Thea Musgrave and Ivor Walsworth.

This special afternoon broadcast features AIRtime visiting artists eteam. eteam is a collaboration of Franziska Lamprecht and Hajoe Moderegger, who are part-time residents of Greene County. Tune in for artist interviews and a special playlist in advance of eteam's midnight broadcast of their project The Cruise on the "WGXC Saturday Afternoon Show."

The Cruise is based on an eight-week long performance eteam did in 2010 at Smack Mellon Gallery, for which the gallery had been transformed into the tea room of a cruise liner. Parts of the room were equipped with tables and chairs, a buffet and an automated piano. On the wall was a projection of two large portholes showing the wake the moving vessel left behind as she crossed the oceans.

Writes eteam, "On a cruise ship those who are hired have to stay on the job at least until the next harbor is reached, yet some still leave their job earlier. A man named Jack is an example of that. During his first week onboard, he suddenly disappeared without leaving any traces. He was replaced by a woman who had been working in another area of the ship before. For the next seven weeks, while she was cleaning the tea room daily from noon – 2 p.m., serving tea and sandwiches as a waitress from 2-5 p.m., and cleaning the dishes from 5-6 p.m. for most parts of the day in solitude, she was gliding into a habit where every task she performed was based on numbers. Numbers of footsteps, numbers of words spoken, tea drinkers who appeared, non tea drinkers who weren’t present, cuts and chops that were necessary to prepare the sandwiches, waves that passed, temperatures that dropped, gravity that pulled etc. She called this system 'my stats'."

Eteam became fascinated. They returned to the tea room almost on a daily basis and started observing her. Based on these observations and the log the waitress kept, eteam wrote a script that covered 6 days onboard the ship. Each day follows the same routine. Every day is identical in the amounts of words thought, but different in the combination of letters these words use.
