Tom Roe's second annual remix of the Orson Welles' radio theater classic "The War of the Worlds." Roe takes the original and layers on broadcasts of the world's current wars, and the disinformation accompanying current wars.

Artists, scientists, community organizers and cultural commentators are joining together to create a collective vision of a sustainable habitat. The Habitats conference and festival is a four-day event organized to promote an exchange between art, technology, and environment. Habitats provides a model for dialogue between urban developers and environmentalists through conferences and panels, participatory and collaborative art, and educational programs. With public and private cooperative efforts leading to cleaner water, the Gowanus Canal area has experienced an increase in wildlife and improved prospects for commercial and cultural revitalization. Habitats celebrates this process. Instigated by Eidolon Culture, The Habitats conferences will include speakers such as best-selling author Steven Johnson (“Emergence” and “Mind Wide Open,”); long-standing community organizers such as the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation (GCCDC) ; electronic artists such as Pauline Oliveros (Deep Listening Foundation) ; installations designs by Amoeba Technology, Russian Art Group 2012 , interactive Gowanus soundmaps by the NY Acoustic Ecology group, site specific sound and video recordings, live music performances, site specific installations, collaborative projects, recycled art, workshops and active audience participation . The placement of the artworks in their site-specific rendition, the sharing of thought provoking ideas of contemporary cultural relevance, and the active role of audience interaction all create a “Habitat” -- a place defined by the indispensable nature of everyone and everything within it.

"Habitats" is a four day program that will address pertinent local ecological/biodiversity issues as well as constructing a 3500 square foot site specific rendition of community and collaborative-driven art and technology.

Artists include free103point9 transmission artists in a Radio 4x4 including Tianna Kennedy, Damian Catera, Michael Garafalo of Latitude/Longitude, Bryan Zimmerman of The Dust Dive. free103point9 will be setting up Radio 4x4 from 8-10 p.m. Fri. Nov. 9 with those free103point9 transmission artists working with the local airwaves.

Peter Stuyvesant's Ghost (PSG) is a civic art project inspired by the rapid cultural and physical changes during the Dutch colonial period in what is now New York City. Using sound as the medium of performance, PSG hopes to tap into the visceral response that hearing, like smell, tends to generate. Guided walks and specifically created maps explore the contemporary topography of the East Village while making palpable the pre-urban terrain of Peter Stuyvesant's seventeenth century farm. A panel discussion provides another look at actual and virtual artifacts, revealing how different professions approach linking the known past with current activities, and, perhaps, visions for the future. The overall goal is a rich, multi-layered experience of the farm footprint, today known as 4th Avenue to the East River, and East 4th to 23rd Streets. PSG will move audiences through this terrain, primed for careful listening to what currently waits to be heard, letting alternative realities flicker briefly into life, and arousing historical and environmental perceptions.

"The Bird's Nest" adapts Eugene Sue's 19th C. serial novel for the radio. This live radio play is a preview of next Thursday's live show at Zebulon. Tune in internet stream to watch video and hear audio.

Composer and trombonist Christopher McIntyre has been developing a number of large ensemble projects in the past few years, both as a leader and collaborator. Several of them will fill Roulette\'s stage during this event, including TILT Brass Band, Lotet and Ne(x)tworks. A thread that carries through each group is both technical and spiritual: mapping the space between composition and improvisation. In the process of making pieces for these bands, an immersive and colorful aesthetic has emerged in McIntyre\'s work.

Tonight\'s program offers a full evening of this repertoire, as well as new works commissioned by Roulette with support from the Jerome Foundation and performed by an impressive array of new music�s heaviest-hitters, including Joan La Barbara, Cornelius Dufallo, Miguel Frasconi, Peter Evans and Nate Wooley.

The first half of the performance features scores written for the composer/performer band Ne(x)tworks. The set includes the premiere of Herkimer, a hybrid multimedia score of cellular and strategic notation. Ne(x)tworks is Joan La Barbara (voice,) Stephen Gosling (piano,) Kenji Bunch (viola,) Yves Dharamraj (cello,) Cornelius Dufallo & Ariana Kim (violins,) Shelley Burgon (harp,) Miguel Frasconi (glass instruments,) Peter Evans (trumpet) and McIntyre (trombone.) free103point9's Tianna Kennedy will assist with the technical infrastructure of the piece.

Members of the McIntyre-led ensembles TILT Brass Band and Lotet, along with some very special guests, join forces on the second half to perform a set of isomorphic musical structures. Grouped in pairs, the instrumentation on hand fuses the timbral bliss of TILT with the low frequency undulations of Lotet\'s live-electronics.
