Joyful Sonic Wash is the project of Junichi Matsuzaki and Megumi Matsuzaki. Junichi performs on a table-top guitar using “junk” preparations: tubes, mouthpiece, bells, a thumb piano and various other toys. Megumi plays sitar with pedal effects, making phrase loops, mixing up melody and noise and oscillating between acoustic and electric sounds. They are joined here by percussionist Don Amit Ram Claudius. Natives of Hiroshima, the Matsuzaki duo were active in artist collectives there and in Kobe and Osaka before moving to New York City in 2002. This performance excerpt was recorded at Roulette in 2006.
