The Electroacoustical Poetical Society (EAPS) - Languido (2025) (Audio)
In this first edition hear how the EAPS sound poets repond to the same word - languido. It's essentially a musical term, is as it sounds...unhurried, languid, tired but also dramatic...and perhaps inexorable... The poets are Tony Brewer and Brian Price in Indiana, Marjorie Van Halteren in France, Gregory Whitehead in Massachusetts, and Joan Schuman in Northern California.
EAPS (Electroacoustical Poetical Society) is the invention of Marjorie Van Halteren to promote the magic that words, voices, languages, instruments, noises and all manner of sounds make together, live and recorded, written, improvised or dreamed – in defiance of genres and categories. Collaborations welcome. EAPS is a group of six sound poets (four in the US, two in Europe) that agree on a single “prompt,” each then making an individual work in response. Marjorie describes its purpose as “promoting the magic that words, voices, languages, instruments, noises and all manner of sounds make together, written, improvised or dreamed – in defiance of genres and categories…words, sounds, silences, thoughts on equal footing.”
