Tracking The Odds: Zeena Parkins (Audio)

The music of Zeena Parkins, composer/improviser/sound artist, a pioneer of the electric harp and innovator for acoustic harp, in solos, duos with guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco, Cibo Matto) and electronic percussionist Ikue Mori (DNA, John Zorn), and a large group composition, all recorded in concert at Roulette in New York City between 2008-2019. Parkins’ collaborators over the years also include Fred Frith, Elliott Sharp, Björk, Matmos, Kim Gordon, Yoko Ono, Christian Marclay, filmmakers Cynthia Madansky, Jennifer Reeves, Daria Martin, and Mandy McIntosh and choreographers John Jasperse, DD Dorvillier, Jennifer Monson, Neil Greenberg, Jennifer Lacey, and Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh. Honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship in Composition, a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Fellowship, a Doris Duke Artist Award, and three Bessie Awards for her work with dance.
