WGXC Morning Show: Django Houston, Heather Williams (Audio)

Jul 15, 2021

In the latest Hudson Valley Word of Mouth segment, Julia Joern visits Round Top neighbors Django Houston and Heather Williams, co-creators of Living Stone. Spanning close to 40 acres and located deep in a woodland forest, Living Stone is an epic magical outdoor event space. Currently a work-in-progress, Houston has built a large open-air timber frame pavilion, fire pits, bluestone patios, and a cedar altar, with much more to come, including camping and unique lodging accommodations. His designs are all organically integrated into the property, which features a waterfall, creeks, and mossy trails. Houston is a master stonemason and sculptor with over two decades in the business, and his work can be found all over our area. Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, he grew up immersed in the outdoors. Building primarily with stone — the most ancient of materials used by humankind for thousands of years — his gift is in creating beautiful and functional architectural and artistic designs that live in harmony with the natural world. Williams is an accomplished caterer and the owner of Pippy’s Food Truck, which is parked most summer weekends at a corner in Palenville (her hometown), just across the way from Circle W. Pippy’s can also be found at other local public venues, like the Greenville Drive-In and West Kill Brewing. Together they have married their creative talents to make Living Stone. Opening in 2022, their place will host a range of events, including weddings, nature workshops, retreats, community gatherings, private dinners, and supper clubs.

The WGXC Morning Show is a radio magazine show featuring local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, with weather updates, and more about and for the community, made mostly through volunteers in the community through WGXC. The Catskill Makers Syndicate produce the "Better Weather" for the show. Rob Gelles produces the Columbia County history segment "Rob Around The County" and "This Month in History" for the show. Julia Joern produced the "Hudson Valley Word of Mouth" interview segment each week. The "WGXC Congressional Report" also airs here. Some reports come from our partner station, WOOC-LP in Troy, out of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Tom Roe also cuts up local and national news with songs and sounds for the show. At 9 a.m. "The WGXC Daily," with local headlines, weather, and previews of community events, airs. At 10 a.m., national headlines from Public News Service are on WGXC. Sometimes national, state, or local press conferences, meetings, or events are broadcast live here.
