Nothing Is Real Radio Hour: SS space systems - MRI session (Audio)

May 14, 2016
Created by Sam Sebren.

This edition of NIRRH features recent recordings using sounds from a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to create experimental sound compositions by SS space systems, a duo project of Sam Sebren and Sam Rosen. SSss used multiple MRI samples along with electronics, radio tunings, and some bass guitar, and recorded the live performances with no overdubs. MRI scanners use magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients to form images of the body. The sounds produced by the machine (in person) can be as loud as 125 decibels. Both Sebren and Rosen have had actual MRI scans which inspired the project.
