All WGXC members and listeners are encouraged to turn out for the second WGXC Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, September 8th. This meeting of the WGXC faithful is an opportunity to meet and mingle with the staff, programmers, radio council, and also for WGXC members to elect new representatives to the Radio Council. To become a member of WGXC, one must donate $25 annually, or commit six hours of volunteer labor. This meeting will also serve as the kick-off to WGXC's Open Air Pledge Drive, which will begin on Sunday, September 9th.
If you're thinking of running for WGXC's Radio Council...
Every year, two members of WGXC are to be elected to the station’s Radio Council. Council members provide critical support with respect to fundraising, outreach, programming, and dispute resolution. Terms for this round will begin in January 2013, and last for one year. If you're interested in running for Radio Council, please read on.
Eligibility: You must be a current WGXC Member (with a membership start date on or before September 1, 2012) to be eligible for participation. Any current WGXC Member is eligible to run for a seat on the Council, and all WGXC Members are eligible to vote. Contact lynn@wgxc.org to confirm your membership status.
Voting Process: At the beginning of the Membership meeting, attendants will be invited to place their names on the general slate. Each candidate will be invited to speak for up to three minutes regarding their interest in serving on WGXC’s Radio Council. Voting cards will be distributed to all members in attendance, and members will be instructed to write-in their vote for two candidates. The cards will be collected and counted by the WGXC Membership Committee.
Comprised of 9-15 area residents, the Council is designed to reflect the diversity of WGXC's listenership, and to ensure that the station continues to serve the needs of our communities. Council Members are required to be active in one of four primary committees: Fundraising, Outreach, Programming, Dispute Resolution. If you'd like more information about roles and responsibilities of Council Members, please contact lynn@wgxc.org.
Membership seats are subject to Radio Council consensus veto. With Council approval, terms of the elected Council Members begin in January 2013.
