If the party conventions are something of a carnival, many people still expect the presidential debates to offer something more substantive: candidates answering unrehearsed questions on real issues, and having a real back and forth. Our guest says that is exactly what you won’t see--and it's by design. Indeed, Walter Cronkite described the current method of organizing presidential debates as "unconscionable fraud." We'll hear from George Farah, founder and executive director of the group Open Debates, about what Cronkite meant. Also on the show: The International Atomic Energy Agency’s new report on Iran’s nuclear energy program was released on August 30--to media coverage that suggested that those concerned about Iran developing nuclear weapons capability have even more to worry about. What did the report actually find? We'll talk Muhammad Sahimi, a USC professor of chemical engineering, whose piece on the IAEA report was published on PBS's Tehran Bureau website.
