New York State has some of the harshest approaches to young people who commit crimes in the country, allowing teenagers as young as 13 to be given adult-level penalties. Tune in to hear about the effects of these laws, including the stories of a young person who spent several years incarcerated at a residential facility in Claverack, and a parent of a young person who has spent most of his adolescence behind bars. During this show, you will learn more about the ways that New York's juvenile justice laws work, how they punish young people, and what you can do to help these laws to change.
