Saturday Afternoon Show: Karen Werner (Audio)

Jul 29, 2017
Interviewed by Tom Roe.

Karen Werner is live in Wave Farm's WGXC Acra Studio, in conversation with Saturday Afternoon Show host Tom Roe. Werner describes her work as audio stories, mostly non-fictional. A sociologist; sometimes she combines the two. At Wave Farm, Werner will present excerpts from her Strange Radio project, an ongoing radio series exploring war, displacement, strangers, and Holocaust post-memory, created October-December 2016 while artist-in-residence at studio das weisse haus in Vienna, Austria. In fall 2017, Werner will continue making episodes of Strange Radio during an artist residency at the Museum Quartier in Vienna, working with the MQ sound art passageway Tonspur and Radio Orange. Werner's audio stories have been broadcast on community and public radio stations in Australia, Austria, Israel, Ireland, Scotland, and the U.S. and at live events such as Live Art Magazine, Kinokophone's sound cinema events, the Deep Listening Festival, and Soundings: Protest|Politics|Dissent. In 2016, her radio documentary, Laws of Lost and Found Objects won the Grand Prix Marulić.
