Tune in at 4:00 PM for this week's "Li Le, Li Tan" with Carline Murphy and Azouke Legba, featuring an interview with author Jacques Alix Louis about his book DESSALINES: The Prophet. This book reveals many facts about the prophet whose name nobody knows. We call him Dessalines because tradition and culture compel us to label people and things. However, no one has a clue about his African name. This book relies on literary legacies of his contemporaries. It covers Dessalines' journey in Saint Domingue from his advent to the scene up to the day of his assassination. This instrument constitutes a tool to clarify unsubstantiated assertions about Dessalines.
Jacques Alix Louis holds a master's degree in computer science and one in mathematics. Today, he works as a professor in various Haitian universities. He is an Analyst who has devoted the last thirty plus years of his life doing research, traveling in quest of authentic facts about Black History. His advocacy aims at debunking the capricious tales that have become parts of Black History.
"Li Le, Li Tan" is a Creole language radio program meaning "it’s the time, it’s the hour." The show's mission is to promote Haitian language, music, arts, and culture; to raise awareness and to discuss Haiti’s history and its relevance to today’s world; and to share news on current events happening here in the counties and in Haiti. Broadcast live from Columbia County, New York.
