For centuries, Hi Brasil haunted the Atlantic like a phantom, its ghostly presence marked on countless maps yet eternally unreachable. Cartographers charted it with surprising certainty, placing it in the cold waters as though it were solid land—yet no one who sought it ever found anything but empty sea. Was it real? Lost? A collective delusion? Or something far stranger? On this episode of Deja Vudu, we navigate mysteries that refuse to resolve. As we listen to the second part of Jason Mohaghegh's Collector of Turns, host Fabiana Gibim traces her own phantom islands: the words of her Guaraní grandmother's prayers, lost in fragments and spoken in a language no one could fully understand—"the encantados language," the spirits' tongue. What lives at the border between Brasil and Paraguay, between Assyrian and Guaraní, between what can be said and what remains encrypted? How many mysteries are marked on our maps, waiting in the mist?
