This broadcast will feature music by the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It will celebrate the 21-CD box set focused on recordings made between 1978 and 2015, the group and some of its associates made for the ECM recording label. Host Rob Saffer, along with guest Lloyd Trufelman, will play selections from AEC records such as “Nice Guys,” “The Third Decade,” and “Full Force,” as well as related works by Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie, Jack DeJohnette. Overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational music, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experimental music — familiar to rare, classic to weird.
