Overlooked: New Releases Oddly Juxtaposed (Audio)

After the local news at noon, a musically diverse, wide range of newly released music spanning genres and continents. An array of recordings that offer the ear unusual musical juxtapositions and pairings: a string quartet and punk rock; Zimbabwean percussion and refracted un-jazz sax jams; pipa blues and detuned guitar improv; and much odder and overlooked music released in 2021. Featuring music by Attacca Quartet; black midi; Typical Sisters; William Parker; Darkside; Min Xiao-Fen; Chris Stamey and Kirk Ross; Michael Harrison; Trialogos; Leila Abdul-Rauf; yes/and; Blurry the Explorer; Gerycz / Powers / Rolin; Rose City Band; Helvetia; Jeffrey Alexander; This is The Kit; My Tree; Les Filles de Illighadad; Sam Gendel and Josiah Steinbrick; Ephat Mujuru; Dustin O’Halloran; and, John Luther Adams.

Overlooked is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
