Overlooked: Gauzy Atmosphere (Audio)
Toward the end of summer and beginning of autumn the atmosphere on Overlook Mountain often alternates between brisk, strikingly clear days and those that are characterized by a deep, hazy gauziness. This broadcast will feature gauzy atmospheric sounds, foggy palimpsests that fade, meld, and disappear like smokey black and white memories, one blending into another. It is new music that sounds old, almost decaying. Music in this broadcast by Chopin; Ella Rediger; Cymin Samawatie and Kean Bhatti; Jeremiah Cymerman; Brendon Randall-Myers and Miki Sawda; Colleen; Brin and Josiah Steinbrick; J.Peter Schwalm and Markus Reuter; Sophie Tassignon; Brett Naucke; Hildur Guonadottir; Attacca Quartet; Max Richter; Kaija Saariaho; Jessica Pavone and Nate Wooley; Matt Evans; Matt Robidoux; Tim Story's Moebius Strips; Maurice Louca; Glenn Echo; Body/Dilloway/Head; and Pelt.
After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
