Coming a day before Valentine’s Day, this live broadcast will celebrate music that’s ecstatic, sometimes relentlessly so. Through pieces short and long, improvised and composed, the program will explore musical ecstasy from a variety of perspectives: rock, jazz, minimalism, fusion, Krautrock, and more. Listeners will be transported over 80 years of euphoric music, from Conlon Nancarrow to Horse Lords. The show will culminate with a relentlessly ecstatic performance at the legendary Fillmore East from 54 years ago to the day. This program will be the first in an occasional "Relentless & Ecstatic” series designed to showcase deliriously over-the-top music. Appropriately, it’s dedicated to Wayne Kramer of the MC5.

After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
