Peter LaVenia, state co-chair of the Green Party of NY, discusses the recently passed state budget with WOOC's Mark Dunlea. Issues include tax the rich, education, carbon tax, excluded workers, marijuana reform and single payer health care. And the Affordable Housing Partnership for the Capital Region is a non-profit organization that offers programs to promote successful and affordable homeownership across the Capital Region. WOOC's Aileen Javier talks with Christina Sutherland, a HUD Certified Housing Counselor for the AHP. She talks about the different programs offered by the Affordable Housing Partnership to help people get education and resources to become homeowners. All classes are virtual now. Their Homeowners Virtual Fair is coming up on Saturday April 10th. Lenders, lawyers and advisors would be available to answer general questions such as requirements for credit, employment history, use of alternative credit, etc. For additional information about their program please visit their website at: www.ahphome.org If would like an email reminder with a link to the Fair please sign up at: ahphome.org/2021-virtual-homebuyer-fair.html. And, after years of effort to restrict solitary confinement, Gov. Cuomo signed into law a bill that will end its use in New York. This was possible this year because Democrats secured a legislative supermajority creating a situation where a veto from the governor could be overridden but Gov. Cuomo signed it just before the April 1st deadline. WOOC producer Elizabeth Press spoke with advocate and survivor Jerome Wright about the significance of ending long-term solitary confinement in New York State.

The WGXC Morning Show is a radio magazine show featuring local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, with weather updates, and more about and for the community, made mostly through volunteers in the community through WGXC. The Catskill Makers Syndicate produce the "Better Weather" for the show. Rob Gelles produces the Columbia County history segment "Rob Around The County" and "This Month in History" for the show. Julia Joern produced the "Hudson Valley Word of Mouth" interview segment each week. The "WGXC Congressional Report" also airs here. Some reports come from our partner station, WOOC-LP in Troy, out of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Tom Roe also cuts up local and national news with songs and sounds for the show. At 9 a.m. "The WGXC Daily," with local headlines, weather, and previews of community events, airs. At 10 a.m., national headlines from Public News Service are on WGXC. Sometimes national, state, or local press conferences, meetings, or events are broadcast live here.
