Overlooked: Lots of Guitars (Audio)

Oct 28, 2020

Rebroadcast from Oct. 27, 2020, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. One day a few weeks ago, three new releases showed up, all by shredding guitarists. Then more followed. It wasn’t hard to realize that it's time to do a show dedicated to newly released music that highlights guitars, from old acoustic ones recorded by Harry Smith to newfangled, pedal laden, effect heavy ones just tinkered with. In this broadcast, new music from Nels Cline, Marc Ribot, Mary Halvorson, Will Mason, Dan Weiss, Maria Schneider, Hedvig Mollestad, Rustam Quliyev, Sidi Toure, Charley Patton, David Lord, Anthony Pirog, Ray Russell, Endless Field, Yo La Tengo, SUSS, and maybe a few more.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
