Overlooked: Under Three (Audio)

Nov 10, 2020

There is a noticeable and welcome trend toward shorter, sometimes miniature compositions that pack lots of musical information into a short period of time. This broadcast will highlight new releases under three-minutes long with many under two, as well as a few that are less than one minute. Shorter tunes mean more artists. We will hear newly released recordings from Chris P. Thompson, Angelica Sanchez and Marilyn Crispell, Keith Jarrett, Andras Schiff, Alina Kalancea, David Bird, Masma Dream World, Elif Yalvac, Josh Johnson, Anthony Pirog, Hedvig Mollestad, Ennio Morricone, David Lord, Lysander Piano Trio, Matt Haimovitz and Mari Kodama, Joseph C. Phillips, Rapt, Sally Anne Morgan, Yo La Tengo, Jennifer Castle, Harry Partch, Harry Smith, Jordan Reyes, Will Mason, Vijay Iyer and Mike Ladd, David Virelles, Matmos, Gunn-Truscinski Duo, Kitt Lyles, Roomful of Teeth, Patrick Higgins, Jupiter Quartet, Mara Rosenbloom, James Brandon Lewis, Theo Bleckman and This Land, Kaze, Christopher Parker and Kelley Hurt, Eric Revis, and Ted Hearne.

After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
