Rebecca Spangenthal and Jake Latakas Orrall from sound art collaboration BACK PAIN stopped by the Acra studio for a session and conversation about their project and upcoming show at Monument Gallery in Kingston, NY on Friday, 8/22.

Rebecca Spangenthal is an artist and organizer currently based in New Orleans, USA. Under the project name Island Queen Satans Flower, Rebecca experiments in multiple mediums, including sound, textiles and event-based happenings. Rebecca’s process involves texture, pattern, color, mood, vibration, experimentation and instinct, which all stem from an understanding of balance, composition and abstraction. Rebecca is one of the founding members of Minneapolis’ The White Page gallery and residency program. Recent projects include collaborative clothing line Exquisite Mechanics with Truthlizard and full length debut album ‘Fantasize’ with She Would.

Jake Latakas Orrall is an interdisciplinary artist, composer, music archivist and producer/engineer based in the USA. Projects of note include his bands JEFF The Brotherhood and Vorhex Angel, his compilation “Even A Tree Can Shed Tears: Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973 (Light In The Attic) and his recent score for Annapurna Sriram’s feature film Fucktoys (2025).
