Mostly Singles: Blues and Sunshine (Audio)

Apr 25, 2024

Out of winter, into spring—and this one, a beauty. Guitar pioneers, piano giants, combos, jug bands, and yes, sunshine pop: a burst of virtuosic playing, 78s, 45s, home tapes and imports, an array of musical forms and evolution of styles, from early on in the Mississippi Delta to the psychedelic sixties and New York’s New Wave. Sylvester Weaver, Lonnie Johnson, Lead Belly, Jack Teagarden, Blind Blake and the Velvet Underground, Eternity’s Children, Kansas Joe McCoy. Shadowy, shimmery, sunny and blue, with all the vintage pops and crackles. Don’t miss!

Claverack resident Michael Wilde presents "Mostly Singles," selections from an extensive collection of 45 rpm vinyl — music from the 1950s, '60s, '70s, and early '80s, mixed with some 78 rpm selections from American popular song and field recordings from the Library of Congress and folklore archives. Broadcast live from the Hudson studio.
