Call for Submissions to the Bike Box

Apr 07, 2010 1:05 pm

Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown seek proposals for the Bike Box, a participatory locative media project and database enabling users to receive geotagged audio in public spaces around Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and the riverfront. The Bike Box database will feature sound art, audio tours, field recordings, radical histories, experimental music, and audio interviews related to Greenpoint and Williamsburg.

The Bike Box launches at Devotion Gallery in Brooklyn in July 16th-25th, 2010. Three technology-enhanced bicycles will be available to the public as well as free software for the iPhone enabling users to connect to the project database and hear sounds geocoded for specific locations in the target area. An installation inside the gallery will also broadcast sounds culled from the database.

Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown will be in New York June 25th to work with artists/scholars/curators who would like to use the Bike Box as a platform for all kinds of sound art ideas.

Individuals and collaboratives are invited to contact Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown via email before June 25th.
