Hudson Valley Word of Mouth: Caroline Crumpacker of Opus 40 (Audio)
May 19, 2021
Produced by Julia Joern.
In the latest Hudson Valley Word of Mouth segment, Julia Joern visits Opus 40. Located on 60 acres in Saugerties, the big attraction at Opus 40 is its monumental earthwork sculpture — spanning over 6 1/2 acres — carved from a bluestone quarry and created by the renowned artist and stone mason Harvey Fite (1903-1976).
Caroline Crumpacker, Executive Director, shares the history of this world-famous place and the remarkable work of its legendary founder. She also discusses a wide variety of upcoming community events, including concerts, workshops, film series, and more — many created in collaboration with other local arts organizations and businesses — and the inaugural Ulster County ACE Week, which kicks off at Opus 40 on July 10.
