Playing Favorites: Béla Bartók
90.7-FM in NY's Upper Hudson Valley and wgxc.org/listen everywhere
http://www.wgxc.org/
Hosted by Brendan Donegan.
The music of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881-1945) is featured. Widely known for his use of Hungarian folk themes, Bartók was also a musicologist who incorporated the songs he recorded during travels in the Balkans and North Africa into his work. This broadcast will examine his use of these sources (and others, such as birdsongs) in four compositions: “Contrasts for Violin, Clarinet, and Piano;” “Dance Suite;” the Adagio from "Piano Concerto No. 2;" and the Adagio Religioso from "Piano Concerto No. 3," one of Bartók's final works.
Formerly called "The Morning Sampler," on this show host Brendan Donegan plays, "an eclectic mix of old and new blues, electronica, pop, RnB, country, Latin, rock, rap, and a bit of classical music" live from WGXC's Hudson studio.
