Produced by many contributors.

The Ice Core Collective (ICC), an interdisciplinary group of Chicago-based artists, is excited to announce the release of Weirdvoice, a podcast anthology of original monologues that blend supernatural storytelling with original soundscapes. This eight-episode series delves into narratives of sound transmissions, fragmented memories, and mysterious journeys, offering a deeply atmospheric audio experience.

Inspired by vintage Halloween sound effect records like Pickwick's Sounds to Make You Shiver, Famous Ghost Stories with Scary Sounds, and the legendary 1960’s radio show Black Mass. Produced by Erik Bauersfeld, Black Mass explored the narrow space between the “audio book” and “radio drama” with compelling performances, intensified with experimental music, whispers and echoes. In tribute, Weirdvoice weaves haunted memories and mystical forces, stories of mystery shoppers and urban explorers, family holidays and journeys to the underworld.

Weirdvoice took over two years to produce, with ICC members capturing original sounds from locations around the world to build a vast audio library. In some instances, sound came first, inspiring the stories. In other cases, they were inspired by visual artwork. The results are handmade stories, recorded and assembled piece by piece from fragments of places, memories, and music. Weirdvoice brings all this together and asks the listener to explore the relationship between sound and story.

The anthology features the work of renowned multidisciplinary artists, including:
Michael Gilio, writer of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023).
Brett Neveu, writer of Eric Larue (2023) Dir. Michael Shannon.
Neil Verma, Writer of Narrative Podcasting in an Age of Obsession (2024)

Other members of the collective include Exal Iraheta, Aviva Jaye, Ele Matelan, Matthew Muñiz, Rich Sparks, and Maya Reter, each contributing their distinct talents to the project.
