From the 1950s to the 1990s, Jeanne Lee used the medium of the voice to bridge the spaces of jazz, poetry, art, and education. She once said that when she performed, she thought of herself as an “environment...and in turn, the music is created as a total environment to the audience.” Produced by students at Bard College (where Lee studied), this two-hour broadcast explores the environment of her wide-ranging career, interweaving studio recordings, live performances, archival audio, and interviews with some of her closest collaborators.
