Celebrating the October 15 birthday of Nigerian musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti (1938-1997) with Part 10 of our ongoing Afrobeat International series, exploring the rich language of Afrobeat and its infinite dialects. The series features seminal artists of the genre as well as bands from the African continent and beyond who are carrying Fela's legacy forward in their own voice and style. In this broadcast we feature Afrobeat bands from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Congo, France, Germany, Italy, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Nigeria, Portugal, Switzerland, Togo, U.K., and right here in the U.S. of A. Catskill resident "DJ Neva" is an ethnomusicologist, producer, and long-time cultural activist, specializing in music from the entire African continent, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, the Maghreb and Middle East, and the Roma (Gypsy) diaspora. Formerly the producer of "Continental Drift" on WBAI-FM and New York International on Haitian community station Radio Soleil in NYC. The show is broadcast live from Catskill, NY.
