Overlooked: Ta-Ta 2020 (Audio)

Jan 12, 2021

In this broadcast, host Rob Saffer says ta-ta, bye-bye, and good riddance to 2020 by playing the last new releases of the decade, featuring new vocal music in languages ranging from Farsi to Yiddish, and musicians from around the globe: Austria, South Africa, Turkey, Norway, Sweden, Ethiopia, Caucasus and of course, Brooklyn. Plus newly released American, South African, and European jazz, Afro-futurist fusion, experiments in ambiance, Turkish psych, novel indie pop, undefinable Swiss something or other, Scandinavian noise-jazz, and a riff on Brahms. Playlist: Ty Citerman; Zedashe Ensemble; Ensemble Consensus; Liraz; Gaye Su Akyol; This Is The Kit; Ron Miles; Nduduzo Makhathini; Micheal Wimberly; John Mueller; Schnellertrollermeier; The End; Dave Gisler Trio; Cortex; Ballrogg; Ben Rosenblum; and Johannes Brahms.

After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
