New York State has some of the harshest approaches to young people who commit crimes in the country, allowing teenagers as young as 13 to be given adult-level penalties. Tune in to hear about the effects of these laws, including the stories of a young person who spent several years incarcerated at a residential facility in Claverack, and a parent of a young person who has spent most of his adolescence behind bars. Listeners will learn more about the ways that New York's juvenile justice laws work, how it can be improved.
