Ginger Radio Hour: Florist (Audio)
A celebration of Florist featuring an interview excerpt and their music. The Catskills-based band Florist continues to tour around their self-titled album from 2022. The 19 tracks, recorded in a rented house the band shared in the Hudson Valley, are a diverse mix of songs, instrumentals, and natural sounds of rain and birdsong. Led by singer and songwriter Emily Sprague, Florist is back to its original lineup on the album, consisting of Jonnie Baker, Rick Spataro, and Felix Walworth. They talked with me about the power of live shows. Felix even called them vital: "It's so important to have this feeling of possibility every night, that really keeps me present." Florist plays at Storm King Art Center June 10.
Host Justin Maiman, from Cairo, shares his latest inspirations on the "Ginger Radio Hour." The show features music, field recordings, performances, and interviews, primarily with people in and around the Catskill Mountains of New York live from WGXC's Acra studio.
