Judge Jill Kehn, appointed as Acting Family Court judge in 2015, will face challenger Anne Coonrad for the role of Rensselaer Family Court judge when voters go to the polls on November 2. WOOC's Corinne Carey spoke with Judge Kehn about the role of a family court judge; her views on how race and class affect those who come before her seeking justice; and what she enjoys doing when she's not on the bench or out campaigning. Also, in the latest Hudson Valley Word of Mouth segment, Julia Joern interviews historian Seth Kamil about his new venture, Hudson Valley Rover Tours. Kamil is the founder of Big Onion Walking Tours, which has offered comprehensive guided tours throughout New York City for the past thirty years. With a focus on architectural history and the built environment, he and his team of educators and graduate students explore how the city’s roots — from immigration, race, ethnicity, and gender — have shaped the Big Apple’s social, economic, and cultural identity. Big Onion made its way to upstate New York and in 2018 Kamil began organizing walking tours of historic Hudson. These tours explore both the city's important and lesser-known sites, while weaving together stories of United States presidents, famous literary figures, locations associated with the Underground Railroad, the evolution of different types of architectural styles since the late 18th century, and plenty of corrupt figures during Prohibition. Taking his knowledge of the region even further, he launched Hudson Valley Rover Tours in 2021. These half-day and full-day excursions occur in a restored 1994 Land Rover Defender, where Kamil is the one doing the driving. His customized tours offer everything from traveling to the actual locations painted by artists of the Hudson River School, to personalized visits with owners of local distilleries, breweries, and farms.

The WGXC Morning Show is a radio magazine show featuring local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, with weather updates, and more about and for the community, made mostly through volunteers in the community through WGXC. The Catskill Makers Syndicate produce the "Better Weather" for the show. Rob Gelles produces the Columbia County history segment "Rob Around The County" and "This Month in History" for the show. Julia Joern produced the "Hudson Valley Word of Mouth" interview segment each week. The "WGXC Congressional Report" also airs here. Some reports come from our partner station, WOOC-LP in Troy, out of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Tom Roe also cuts up local and national news with songs and sounds for the show. At 9 a.m. "The WGXC Daily," with local headlines, weather, and previews of community events, airs. At 10 a.m., national headlines from Public News Service are on WGXC. Sometimes national, state, or local press conferences, meetings, or events are broadcast live here.
