After the local news at noon, the final “Overlooked” of 2022, featuring 21 new releases from 2022, highlighting the typically wide range of artists and styles associated with “Overlooked’s” newly released music shows. In 2022, host Rob Saffer produced 11 shows devoted to newly released music, showcasing 240 different musicians, and another 11 thematic shows highlighting the work of 103 artists in 233 different tracks, from Holy Rock and Rollers and Ornette Coleman cover tunes to profiles of Iannis Xenakis, John Gilmore, and Phillip Pearlman, among others. On a poignant note, “Overlooked” also profiled cornetists Kirk Knuffke and Ron Miles, in a show that aired shortly before Miles's sad and untimely death. All in, “Overlooked” played 343 artists and 473 tracks — a good 2022. “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
