Making Waves: 20261010 - Julia White on 'By the Light of the Wild Within' (Audio)

Oct 10, 2026

Previously on Making Waves we listened to a conversation about Deep Listening with Anne Bourne, Stephanie Loveless and Julia White. We will be continuing that topic but this time through investigating the sculptures and sound installations that Julia White makes. We will also interweave soundscapes she recorded for her new installation By the Light of the Wild Within. Those recordings originated mostly from her home in the Grey County region of Southern Ontario, which is just south of the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron. Other soundscapes in the piece were recorded northeast of there in South River. And there are a few surprises thrown in from her travels to Halifax and the east coast of Canada.

Making Waves is a monthly one hour program about radio art and sound art that is produced by New Adventures in Sound Art's Artistic Director Darren Copeland in South River, Ontario, Canada. The show features Canadian, US, and international artists creating sound-based media art. It focuses on the techniques, processes, and motivations of the artists it features as well as individuals supporting the field through dissemination and curatorial activities. The show is a snapshot of what is happening in sound-based media art in the here and now from a northern perspective.
