Situation Fluxus: Richard Gillis (Audio)
In this broadcast, an interview with Richard Gillis, Artistic Director and conductor of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, trumpeter, and flugelhorn player. The orchestra’s new release is Voices — A Musical Heritage (WJO). The album is a collection of commissions from eight jazz composers intended to reflect some of Manitoba’s musical heritage: First Nations, Metis, Ukrainian, Jewish, Chilean, Brazilian, Nigerian, and Icelandic. Plus, a selection from bassist Carlo Mombelli’s Clap Your Hands and drummer Peter Erskine’s Grammy-nominated release Live in Italy.
