WGXC Morning Show: David Eustace (Audio)
Host Tom Roe speaks with David Eustace about his multimedia installation "rocketworks: X11," on view at July 16th until July 24th, 2019.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the first manned flight to the moon and back in 1969, "rocketworks: X11" features an eight-day long sound piece that begins with launch on July 16th at x9:32 am EDT, and will run continuously until splashdown on July 24th, at 12:40pm EDT. Audible at listening stations in the space and accessible online through a stream made possible in partnership with Wave Farm, the pieced, called X11, uses archival audio of NASA’s communications between earth and the moon-bound Apollo 11 astronauts to mirror the historic trip in real time.
Combined with stop-motion video, works on paper, and mixed-media sculpture, rocketworks: X11 explores themes of risk, reward, aggression, & play while celebrating this complex human achievement as the culmination of over two millennia of experimentation with rocketry.
