Tryptophanfest of Intolerable Music

Tryptophanfest of Intolerable Music. From Rob Saffer. (Nov 26, 2019)

Hosted by Rob Saffer.

Overlooked presents the fifth annual "Thanksgiving Tryptophanfest of Intolerable Music.’ Host Rob Saffer will present an array of music so unlistenable that you will actually want to turn off the radio and go back to spending time with your equally intolerable family! This Thanksgiving Rob will serve up some "tryptophanic" gems from Pultizer Prize winners such as Caroline Shaw and Julia Wolfe, and MacArthur Fellows Meredith Monk and John Zorn, along with mouth organs from Laos and Bangladesh and western organs from London, as well as works by Terry Riley, Anthony Braxton, Morton Feldman and Meara O’Reilly among others. Tune in, tune out, and enjoy Overlooked’s Thanksgiving Tryptophanfest of Intolerable Music.

After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
