The 18th century was the height of the international slave trade, and the focus of that trade was the area of West Africa known as Sene-Gambia, populated by a mixture of those who spoke Wolof, Fulani and other languages and had traditional spiritual practices and Islam as its main religions. The advent of the selling of human beings placed a tremendous amount of strain between the kingdoms of West Africa and its spiritual leaders. Today we take a look at Islam and the enslavement of African people through the eyes of African historian, Dr. Rudolph Ware, who is also the author of "The Walking Koran", and Christopher Brown, Professor of History at Columbia University.
