Mendi and Keith Obadike discuss their "Numbers Station" exhibition (Audio)

Sep 12, 2015
Interviewed by Tom Roe.
Numbers Station [Furtive Movements] utilizes the structure of numbers stations- mysterious shortwave radio broadcasts used to transmit clandestine information by a single voice reading a series of cryptic numbers, punctuated by electronic sounds and music. The exhibition (Ryan Lee Gallery, NY Sept. 2015) was preceded by a performance at the gallery. Using a radio transmitter and tone generators, the artists read a series of numbers culled from the self-reported Stop-and-Frisk data of 123 New York Police Department precincts.
