Music for the Masses: Oliver Mtukudzi (Audio)
Jan 27, 2019
A tribute to Zimbabwe's beloved "Tuku" – composer and guitarist Oliver Mtukudzi – who left this dimension on Jan. 23, 2019 at the age of 66, after a long illness. Arguably the most powerful creative force to emerge from Zimbabwe since the 1970s, Mtukudzi combined compelling rhythms and accessible melodies with socially relevant lyrics, creating a vast body of work chronicled through more than 60 albums, singles, and film soundtracks. This broadcast will feature some of the songs that defined his career, along with some lesser-known collaborations and live recordings. Music for the Masses invites you on an excursion of sound and rhythm. Discover the music of established and emerging artists, both signed and unsigned, on the international music scene. Expect the unexpected. You might want to pack a map and a sandwich. For the avid globe-hopper and armchair traveler alike. Broadcast live from the Hudson studio.
